Thanks, I do appreciate it.
I don't know why I didn't do that - probably was more concerned with the other R&Ding I was doing at the time. $131 shipped for two filters. Figured - why not, cheaper to do (2) than (1) and shipping is $27 vs double that for two seperate orders. |

so for those of us who are somewhat clueless with wrenching, (BTW I have been following all your threads and I understand the concepts but am way to chicken to try) this just sits in the stock box and no modifications? so those of us who are mechanically challenged could actually think about installing this and reverting to stock as needed?
thanks for all your experimentation. Last edited by rounderman; 10-12-2020 at 12:42 PM.. |

I may have to try this, definitely in my limited wheelhouse. If I was anywhere near Chicago I would buy you a beer (safe to offer since I am not anywhere near Chicago)

Well, I ordered two. I'll post the install (5 screws, simple) and provide results. I'm thinking a 30% increase in air flow, is definitely a lot lower than what I previously tried - so, we will see.
I'm thinking this is my last 'go' at R&Ding for now. Because I can't see the light on any other option other than fuel pump - and that kinda makes me a little 'iffy' right now and going down a rabbit hole that I don't financially want to pursue at this time like I did on my STI. I am a newbie or better said by rounderman above "clueless with wrenching", I do appreciate and find informative all the sharings and findings by you guys like xcelir.
I've never been to Chicago, but if I happen to be there someday, I would pay you a beer. Or if you visit Montreal, the same offer stands too |

Used to head to Montreal at least once a year to see friends and renew a with visa.. Love it there!
Yes the drop in filter is relatively easy... But could be a little bit frustrating still. First of all you need torx bits..which are "star" bits. It also may be slightly tough to pull open the box, it's wedged together pretty tight and you might have to take the MAF snorkel section out (simple flat head worm clamp) to get the whole thing off. Definitely not impossible, but wedged in there tighter than a lot of cars I'm used to. So all you need is that torx and a flat head screwdriver and a little patience. Still this should be 30 minutes tops with breaks to take your time etc. I certainly could rush to do it in 5 minutes now that I know exactly what I need and where to yank. I think you may find it doesn't make a big difference in power. It will sound better, and may give a slight improvement, but it won't be night and day. If you discover otherwise though, I'm all ears! |

Terry's response was that my intake made barely a difference.. but it's probably messing up the MAF reading somehow. I had thought about getting a MAF pipe with an air diffuser. I can't think of the proper term right now. I really do actually miss the intake sound and the crackles. I didn't think it was that big of a difference, except for the past week going to work it's been quite a bit muted. Still.. I'm getting closer to emptying my tank and filling up with some new gas. I hope my car behaves a lot better.. but it would mean the second I got bad gas my car will be unhappy again Let's just see what happens.

age
for those of you keeping score I graduated high school in 1972, that makes me 66 (and closer to 67) I semi retire tomorrow and flip to part time for a while (my boss really wants me to stay and I am in healthcare so I feel a little obligation to help out for a while)
What little wrenching I used to do was on much simpler cars. The last regular stuff I used to do was change my own snow tires mounted of course but time and age and the ability afford to let someone else do it ended that. The Saabs at least were fun with the jack you could do a full side at a time because you didn't know better. I have changed bulbs and easy stuff, the air filter sounds like my wheelhouse. And I now have more time to play really am enjoying these threads I find it inspiring. A year ago I did my first ever M track day and it was a blast first time on a track ever, first legal time driving 120, etc. If the world had been better I would have gone again this year. Since this is a lease I won't track my current ride but the next one who knows stay safe everyone |
