For the others that will never see a track regularly they will be 95 % well served by the ZF8. Nurburgring might be a bit different from your local 2-5mile track, the ZF8 might be less annoying with all the long stretches and open space.
This.

ZF8 is lacking and isn’t an okay substitute for a DCT.

It’s slow and dull compared to the DCT. BMW decided to save a few bucks here but ruined the appeal of the car. But I’m glad they offer a manual at least.

Go drive on track and brake very late and shift down. It is sluggish. The gear box is not fast enough on downshifts.

^ this.. the ZF8 just can’t keep up when driving at the limit.

A DCT allows the driver to enjoy the chassis at the limit without sacrificing speed and control to shift. Chris Harris has a great feature about this - I just don’t remember which video it was in.

Also, the DCT had SO much character that is lacking with automatics and manuals. The ZF8 can’t compete, it’s not even in the same league.

I will be getting mine in manual now, but if DCT was an option - it would be hard to choose.
Great summary!

I heard great reviews about ZF 8 speed and i test drove a 240 couple last week at my dealership. Not sure if i was expecting a lot on based on what i read but ZF 8 speed is no match for dual clutch transmissions. It doesn't bring in the excitement or the raw feel. Yes, DCTs are clunky at low speeds but it definitely has a great overall character.

A little bit of background, i drove manuals all my life and DSG in VAG vehicles were the first automatics i ever owned.

Asked this in an M3 thread too.

Any guesses as to how long dealers will be running markups on this thing? I'd imagine most dealers will start getting them in Spring of 2023. M3/4s are running at least $10k markups right now.

I may sign a lease on a a "stop gap" car this week. In two years time I really want the M2 don't want to be in a position where I'm looking at massive markups and having to settle for a 240 coupe instead.

I can get sticker at the absolute worst around here for those things (gag). That's for just about every car right now anyway with how bad the supply is. Anybody paying markup for a mass produced BMW, especially something as nasty as the G8x is out of their mind. Is this a California thing?

Must be a California thing, all the M3's at dealers around here are MSRP, hell we've had M4's that have been sitting and even those have discounts. Agree, you'd have to be a fool to buy a mass produced BMW with a markup.

Yes at least in the Los Angeles/Orange County area. Glad to know it's not nationwide.

I doubt there will be a vent. I suspect it's caused by the plastic cover they're using to camo the grill that's causing this effect.

To summarize earlier posts, they are unlikely to be the final product. They are plastic pieces stuck over donor fenders for testing. FYI f you were hoping for them to make it to the final car.

I disagree.

At this moment there are some photos with camouflage but with few or almost no "fake" panels, as an example the kidneys are clearly visible now.

See the photo here, i see everything fitting in the fenders like a glove, i don't think that's non-almost-final fenders size

I may be wrong though.

The 46 photos with less camouflage are in here: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/2...56.html#agal_1

Agreed. Ordered a G29 M40 a month ago and got it 10% below MSRP.

That is the 2 series as it states in the article, so m240i. Not M2

Ah damn you're right, i got confused!!

That being said the fenders in the M240i in the photos have quite decent big fenders for being "regular" series 2... but yeah, M2 is so away of production that they will still probably change meanwhile

That said, several variations of the M240i and M2 have been discussed and there could be more than one car referenced at more than one point in time. The linked pictures look decent and I'm on your side they could make / or are production, because as mentioned this is indeed/ apparently a different car than I had in mind when I said that.

It's already been stated by people in the know about this car that it will have some nice hips/fender arches. If the M240i has decently pronounced wheel arches like shown in the last pic with very little camo, what do you think the M2 will have, some beefy ones.
