No Viv - I think I know what the problem is. Its been just over a year since it left the dealers and it feels that it needs a trip back there, probably just to keep in touch with the staff.

On my sensor there is no level shown, justs says 'oil check' and when you push the button isays 'oil ok' so I have no idea if it needs any. Looking at the service book it hasn't had a service yet, registered in Feb 08 and done 11K so far.

Does this sound normal behaviour or could I have an oil leak? The car is 13 months old, done about 3500 miles (2.5, 6 cylinder petrol) so I expect it might be due oil... just surprised the way that the electronic oil gauge is behaving.

I JUST GOT MY CAR!!! AND I HAVE THIS WARNING LIGHT!!! WHEN I CHECKED, HAD THE ENGINE OIL ON MINIMUM!!!!....BLOODY PISSED OFF....CALLED THE SALESMAN N HE SAYS THAT HE WILL SEND ME SOME OIL!!!....I though that they did all the regular checks!!!....bunch of plonkers!!!...

My car is a 335 i ....anyone know which type of engine oil do I need? and how can I top it up? I don't want to wait for the dealer to send me the oil. Where I can quickly get the right engine oil to top up my car?

I use the dipstick. Never understood how these electronic ones are supposed to work on a running engine. They're no float level sensors, and it is one wild atmosphere down there when the engine runs. Plus there will be a significant difference between measuring before start, and while the engine is running.

If you want my advice, if you do want to use the electronic one, use it only before starting the engine, and compare it once or twice to the manual dipstick so you really know what it says.

The electronic sensor requires the engine to be running and warmed up. Even with it warmed up, if the engine is off the sensor won't show anything.
