Trust me...I have seen a lot worse in places like Mexico and South America.

I know in some places with housing like it is...they do what they have to do and it's sad to see.

I don't have the picture handy, but I was on a cruise ship shore excursion to a banana plantation in Jamaica a while back, and there was an ancient PCB-filled transformer on a utility pole right next to a row of banana trees...and it was dripping onto the ground through a tiny rust hole in the bottom of the case! Not just the 3rd world either (well, I guess Florida is sort of the 3rd world). A coworker of mine was telling me that she rented a mini-suit near Disneyworld; a nice modern (looking) high end rental. She was shocked to find that the 4-burner countertop range was powered via its feed line being electrical taped to a basic lamp-cord extension cord end that was plugged into the outlet for the insinkerator. Her partner is an electrical contractor, so it was a total no-go for them (wondering what horrors were hidden in the walls), but the management was doing the 'what's the big deal - were you going to make thanksgiving dinner or something?'
