It's a shame that when people like this disintegrate, they cause injury and damage to others along the way.

I think that some of the remarks are AGEIST and cannot be generalized to the entire young population.
It's just like how some people are SEXIST and make fun of female drivers. There will always be bad drivers of differing age, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, etc.

Being 18 years old and saying I deserve a nice car such as an M3 or 135i is true. However, I would hate to know that my rich ass parents bought it for me. Fact of the matter is that teenagers need to learn the value of money! I am currently working 2 jobs. 1: Kragen Auto Parts $10.25/hr 2: Safeway $8.75/hr. Trust me, I am buying my own dam 1. With my own money. I hope you all feel the same way. Reading that post on E46fanatics.com disturbs me.

In the local newspaper about a week ago a 23 year old driver collided head on with a Golf 5am in the morning whilest driving a Lamborghini Diablo at 220Km/hour.
He burnt to death in the car and had to be identified by his parents. Unfortunatly the saying speed kills= true.

Seriously how can an 18 year old 'deserve' an expensive M3. Did you do well on your high scool exams? In my day that may have resulted in a new bicycle. Give me a break. |

One of the dealerships in town had a beautiful new red M3 on the showroom floor, a guy walked in, paid cash for it, signed the papers and immediately handed the keys to his 16 year old daughter and said "enjoy your new car honey"!! 16 YEARS OLD!! The salespeople at the dealership were stunned. The sales manager even tried to talk the guy out of doing it but from what I hear the guy said it was none of their business what he did with the car. The daughter's response was sort of like 'whatever'.
People with that much disposable income don't care about insurance rates and if she wrecks it, he'll buy her another one. And you know if she were to get injured or killed in a wreck, he would be the first one to blame BMW and the dealership and try to sue for millions.

I cringed the moment I saw the subject.
Now I'm going to get flamed for this but I think part of this is a poor parenting decision. Don't give your kid with so little experience the keys to an M3. Or any fast RWD car for that matter. If I were the parent, I'd have taken him to the track to learn how easy it is to screw up, and learn the car's abilities and the same time.

Oh I can't look at those pictures... such a nice car...
I am also a young driver and will be driving 135 form october. But its not age that causes the accidents but stupid behavior. The same is not true with statement that young person can't drive very powerful car. My friend is my age (21) and he already had Lamborghini Galardo not mentioning all sorts of Porsches. And he drives very very well because he thinks while driving. (okay he practices with really drivers etc on the raceway but still...) There are no rule for who can and who can't drive fast cars. Another thing is with respecting the money if you didn't pay for something yourself. This is another reason they don't think...

Try this:
Would you give a 16-19 year old a handgun or rifle without taking safety training and practice seriously? Would you allow them to keep the weapon in their closet right away? The much the same way, a vehicle that easily produces potentially unsafe amounts of power, speed, etc... should not be given lightly. It's a dangerous weapon without proper training and experience. |
