Most Correct Donut Size for Storage Area?

Need to order up a donut tire to go on a new 17" emergency spare rim.

Will the 135/90-17 tire fit in the car's rear hold (26.6" diameter)?

or

Should I go with 135/80-17 (25.5" diameter)?

I have the 135/90 for my spare. It will not fit in the storage compartment. I only throw it in the car with a jack and impact wrench on vacations. Else it stays in the garage. If I get a flat, I’ll have someone bring me the spare. Lol

Is it close to being able to fit? The 135/80/17 is an inch smaller in diameter vs the 135/90, I'd go with that if it'd fit in the storage area.

Thanks

Cant imagine different year F39 X2s have different dimension trunk areas.

Hmmm…I didn’t check for the space under the bumper. Will have to clean my trunk out and try this weekend.

I looked at mine again yesterday. There is a space about 4 inches deep under the rear threshold, that's available in the well. The rear edge of the wheel has to go into it first, then it rotates down toward the front and fits with about an inch to spare.

In my photo from the post you screenshotted, the rear edge of the tire kind of disappears - that's not the angle of the shot, it's the extra 4 inches. I'd be shocked if yours doesn't have the same.

I have the space. I checked after posting that. I just haven’t had time to clean out the trunk to fit the spare. Lol. Afraid of how much husky hair has embedded itself back there…

'Preciate it. I have a tire heading my way & already have the rim in hand.

Side Note: These tires aren't easy to come by. My Discount Tire guy said none avail to him nation-wide. Didn't see any on Ebay or Amazon. The only 'normal' online place I found that had any was TireRack & IIRC I got the last one they had (or 1 of only 2 they had).

Sometimes it's easier to buy one at a junkyard and remove it from the existing rim. I got mine on TireRack though.

If I had a do-over I'd have done it this way. By the time I'll be done the new tire + the mounting will be double or more than double what the rim itself cost.

Had to pay a fair amount more than what I’m guessing it’s all really worth, but got it together & placed in the car.

Hey if it gets you home the one time you might need it, then it'll be worth it.

You should grab that one nut to hold it down.. the hole is there, you just have to drill a hole in the liner. Can't remember the part # off hand, but it should be in here. I happened to be at the dealership when I was putting these things together and I think it was like $7 for the retaining nut and washer so I told them to order it.

Bimmerzone offers a spare for the X2, sized 135/90-17. They did the measurements on my old 2019 M35i a year or so ago, with my trunk pictured on their site. As others mentioned, it has the rear-facing edge tucked a few inches recessed into the bumper area.

Dumb question - but will this one clear the M-Sport brakes on the front wheels of the X2 M35i?

Not a dumb question.. it will not clear the sport brakes. If I ever get a front flat I'm going to have to swap it off the rear tire first and move it to the front one that blows.. I haven't verified if my spacers will move it far enough to clear.. it might , but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

Ha - my mind went blank - never thought about just swapping front to rear.
