Sorry oil filter thread...
I'm new to the forum and did quite a few searches for recommenced oil filters for an F48 2017 X1 xdrive. The search is forum-wide so I was not able to find anything.
It will take my two weeks to get a Mann filter, which I believe is pretty close to stock. Any other options? |

There are 4 engines for our friends in Europe. You've got the b46/B48. As someone else mentioned Rock Auto is your best bet. You could also order from the dealer, as they're independent, prices change by dealer, sometimes you luck out, so call around. Can also get from Amazon if you search for F48 oil filter or B48 oil filter. https://www.amazon.com/K-N-PS-7039-Oil-Filter/dp/B07ZHZ9XLL/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?_encoding=UTF8&dchild=1&qid=1599419 708&s=automotive&sr=1-2&vehicle=2017-31-21520-2925--9-6-6-22418-3891-1-1-5339-188-&vehicleName=2017+BMW+X1

I ended up just ordering my next slew of filters from K&N on amazon. Surprisingly the MANN filter I got last time went up in price to double .. I think $20? The K&N's were just under $10 each so I ordered a few and did an oil change 2 days later.. yay for Prime.

Me too! Current price is $7.71 for the full kit (drain plug seal, o-ring, canister plug & filter element). Shipping is reasonable too. If this is you first time, be aware that you'll need a low profile socket and a torx bit to do the job. Just remember that the filter housing is made of plastic - don't go crazy when tightening; a torque wrench comes in handy here. Oh, and pay attention to which groove on the canister that the new large o-ring fits into, then lube it with a swipe of clean motor oil.

I had a k&n one i used on my e82 n52 engine (I know different engine and filter) and after about 3000 miles when I changed the oil as it had been about 6-9 months, the oil filter was crushed essentially, like it had collapsed and tore in a few places. I realize it's a different engine and this different filter but since then I have stayed away from them, but I hear other people who have the metal K&N filters on non bmw cars swear by them, so my scenario could be an outlier but I recall thinking it was a bit flimsy compared to the oem. I've gone through 1 and the next one is on the car now. I ordered a bunch thinking it'll fit my X2 m35i but... they are different just by a bit.. how frustrating.
The K&N didn't look any different than the stock nor the MANN I had in after. I only switched to K&N because the price went way up on the MANN through amazon. |
