How to enable dynamic parking trajectory lines?

Does anyone know what causes the trajectory lines on the backup camera to become enabled or disabled when parking? I didn't know the X1 had these, but one day I parked and they were there. Then, again, they weren't. Did I click something to enable them that one time?

Side topic: I also used to have the right mirror tilt down when reversing out of a spot and it hasn't been doing that in a while. Can I re-enable that?

Principle
When reverse gear is engaged, the mirror glass on the front passenger side is tilted downwards. This improves the view of the kerb or other ob‐ stacles near the ground, for example when park‐ ing.
Activating
Rear-view mirror, manual-dim
Turn button ( Mirror button)
Engage selector lever position R.
The automatic parking function is deactivated when the trailer socket is in use.
Deactivating
Push the switch to the front passenger's mirror position.

The mirror dipping in reverse only works when the mirror selector on the driver's door is set to the driver's side. So that's the first thing to check.

When you're in reverse (or by pushing the park assistance button next to the shifter), you can use the iDrive controller to access the parking assistance settings on the left side of the screen. The parking aid lines can be enabled or disabled with a checkbox.

If I remember rightly, the "parking guidance lines" are a setting in iDrive relating to the rear view camera. If you engagge reverse so the camera is on then tilt the controller to the left, you'll probably find it. Mine were turned off as default when the car was new.
