Windscreen washers

Any suggestions as to why my washers seem to have lost their pressure? Water does spray out of the 4 nozzles but doesn't seem to reach as far as usual.

I had a similar issue with my old 3-Series, eventually it lost pressure then would barely spray out. There was a filter in there that was clogged, they claimed it was because somebody put water in the washer fluid tank (which never happened because they maintained it and I wouldn't dare do that). After the filter was cleaned it worked fine.

Maybe thats the same thing?

Thanks for the suggestion. Going in for service Monday so will ask for it to be checked. Can't get to the reservoir below the filler pipe.

Dealer used compressed air to unblock pipes (pump was OK) and told me about using approved w/washer fluid and not just plain water. I had never heard that. Next time it happens I'll need to have the reservoir cleaned out.

Plain water won't actually "clog" the system, but it provides no lubrication like the soap/alcohol/water mix. This can cause the pump to seize up, it's usually a kind of paddle-wheel with a squeegee-type action.

Also of course, plain water can freeze, if there is any risk at all of that. Ice will displace hoses, force valves open, etc.

Took my E90 to the dealers 4 times to clean out the screen and they finally admitted it was a piss poor design for cars in southern markets. My son actually put algicide in the system after the 4th time and it stopped clogging up. We were using BMW fluid all along but still got clogged. The screen was a impossible to get to because it was behind the wheel well and you had to take the wheel off.
