Yes my 118d failed on my driveway the BMW emergency guy was there within 3 hours to replace the EGR valve but he said the car would require new firmware to go with it, which only the dealer could install.

I have a 2017 2.0d X1 xdrive with 15 000 km on the clock and the car has developed a fault where, if your cruising gently (on low RPM) and then gently accelerate the car hesitate and than sometimes jerk before it pulls away.
+++ I have same problems as above mentioned - only btw 4th and 5th gear on low rpm, on low RPM then gently accelerate the car hesitate and than sometimes jerk before it pulls away. Still don't know if it is gearbox or ERG ?? On high RPM no issues with gearbox, problem also somehow less when you are in SPORT mode, as as low RPM higher in this mode. |

Hello
I had same issue & BMW said transmission was broken. BMW was gracious to say that they would pay for new transmission as I had only 50k miles (parts only) - which helped quite a lot for charges. Instead of paying 2200GBP, I ended paying 1k or so. Good luck |

Check your EGR. My car had the same symptoms and needed an EGR replacement. I also was afraid of transmission problems, because it used to do so around 60-70 km/h, when slowly accelerating, but fortunately the problem was the EGR.
My car had 76.000 km at the moment of replacement. |

For past one month my 2016 X1 sdrive 18d started to hesitate and jerk to change gear when on low rpms, now I read here that it could be EGR valve. On higher rpms all is good. This happens in comfort mode. My scheduled service is in 6 moths, so I am not sure can I wait till then to check this or should go to service earlier. I have 50 000 km. If it is EGR valve, do I pay for it, how much does it cost aproximately or BMW covers the cost? Till January 2021 I have one more free service check and oil change from 5 year free service package.

You cannot make every component 100% reliable. Eventually, some will fail.

To summarize - if you have delays when push accelerator at low RPM and response with delay, at some occasions it even look like problem with gearbox, most likely it is EGR valve fault, i also notice higher vibration of engine while idle, was nothing critical but still.. at service once i mentioned all problems, they have been even without checks conclude that it is EGR valve problem, and it is at 48000km only!!! so look like typical problem for that engine. |

Had same problem with my 2016 XDrive 20D , the car is 4 years old now and out of warranty, took it to my local BMW dealer in Sydney yesterday and they confirmed it was the EGR valve, BMW has done a goodwill and supplied the parts for free , I did pay the diagnostic and labour fee which was AU$360, the car was ready this morning , all in all good service and result, the car drives like new again.

Gezo I had the exact same problem, same model and year and it was solved by a recall to BMW where they install a new transmission software adaptation.
Hasn't returned since. Maybe this will help you with the dealer. Note I didn't read the full conversation so sorry if you already solved this. |

I have a similar problem, but mine is a 2.0i petrol engine with 25,000 miles, and it's freaking me out
I have a JB+ and a K&N air intake, so my first step is to remove the JB+ and go back to OEM air intake. Then, the dealer will update the software for all the modules (transmission, etc.). And after that, make a full diagnosis. The spark plugs were replaced 5,000 miles ago, so I think it could be the air sensor, transmission, or fuel pump (maybe?). What else could it be? Have anyone experience this issue with a petrol engine? Thanks!

That is because it is a myth. It has been circulating for many many years and it gets posted on other forums. Even on the Audi/VW forums.
Many will tell you it is fact and they can feel it happen. It is the placebo effect. The only way anyone can make a difference is have a full reset at the dealers.

Thanks, Peter_R,
I just left my X1 with BMW to do a full update of all modules. I hope it helps with this issue and the other one I have, the vibration from a cold startup, but my gut tells me it's something else... Anyway, I keep you posted. Quote:
