Hi all,
I am wondering, is there any version on sale of this spring with more thickness, in order to avoid the same failure on the future?
I still do not have this issue, but I would like to have the spring on hand just in case I have to change it in the future.
Yesterday I was on my mechanic, and he showed me this spring (he has few of them on stock due to is a typical repair for him), and it seems quite thin and weak. In case I have to change it in the future, I would like to put a thicker spring.

I don't think there is one thicker available. I have replaced many springs on minis, f48s, f46s and none came back with the issue.
So I wouldn't look for one

This happened today in my wife's X1😩😩😩

Just wondering how long it took for some of you members?

I'm quite competent with my hands and know my way around lol.

I'm hoping it is the spring after pulling everything out.

Cars on 54k miles 2016.

I've ordered to spring.

Thanks for that thread, very useful

There is at least 1 Youtube video. Looks like a pretty advanced project. I bought a new shifter assy and had it done at my Indy mechanic. Took them 3.5hrs and they didn't have to take aprt the shifter to change the spring.

pinco000 This guy was excellent. Replaced the broken spring. Around a 1.5 hour job. Complete fix for this issue. At a main dealer they would be charging at 4 times what he did. Thank you again!

Question Broken torsion spring F48 2017

I have passed all what people posted about this topic.
Last question is should I order new spring from ebay or repair original one.
Since I become second hand owner a month ago, I am searching for best long term solution .
Can someone tell me how good are springs from ebay and can they match original ?

Thank you !

You mean repair the one that has broken or get a new one that isn’t broken?
No brainer surely

Thank you !
I have the repaired original in and it holds for over two years now. Saying that, there were none new available so nowadays I would go with a chinese replica 🙂
I have used many of them over the last two years in customer's cars and zero issues

Is there anyone in the Montreal area (Canada) that knows a shop (non-BMW dealer) that can do spring replacement? Thanks.

Had the same issue with the transmission error message due to broken spring in gear-shift unit in my X1.

Brought it to Pinco000 on the weekend, and he sorted the problem out for me quickly and at a very reasonable price... he even managed to help remove the door fascia to repair the door lock button that had popped into cavity.

A nice guy and highly recommended.

Thanks for helping me out pinco000 - much appreciated.
