X535d Ordered

So, I went and placed an order today for a 2010 X535d today.

I have never felt older then I do right now. I ordered an SUV with three rows of seating. I ordered the model with the best fuel economy in its class, not the fastest one, the most economical one.

Oh well, all the gadgets and accessories will be fun.

I am slowly turning into those middle aged men that I feel sorry for when I pass them on the the highway. They are usually driving suvs loaded with sh*t, sh*t tied on the roof, five bicycles hanging off the back a dog crammed in the back in the only small square that isn't packed to the headliner with sh*t, a whinney the Pooh sun shade stuck to the window (I ordered rear seat climate control to avoid this particular fate), and the caricature stickers on the back window with every assh*le in the family wearing Mickey Mouse ears.

So yeah, looking forward to my new truck.

Congratulations on your purchase. I am a middle age man and I have an X5 4.8i without all these gadgets and I enjoy shaming these punks with their little cars. My dealership is now using X5d for their shuttle. Very impressive torque and easy on the gas. A difference from the 4.8i which is very thirsty.

I too just ordered a 2010 x5 35d for the same reasons for my wife. We are trading in her 04 e 500 for something with room to pile in all the crap for the kids. At least I still have my 07 335 and my 1998 540. The 540 has only 36000 miles and is in showroom shape.

The fuel consumption was the final straw for me. I have a Cayenne S that I love, and it was always my plan to get a Cayenne Turbo next, but getting 15mpg average was beginning to bother me. That and I bash hybrids SOOO much and say that Diesels are a better alternative that I had to put my money where my mouth is.

I am looking forward to all the goodies and gadgets, the only thing I am worried about it being disappointed with the build quality. I honestly can not imagine a car being built as well as my Cayenne, it has 85,000 miles on it now (I think it had 9 miles when I picked it up), it has no squeaks, no rattles, it looks brand new, and it still makes that sound like you are opening a vacuum sealed box every time you open the door.

This is far from my first BMW, and I know they are also good. We'll see what the next 80,000 miles has in store for me.

Not to worry. The x5 35 I just ordered will be my 4th BMW. The only repair I have ever had was to replace 2 catalytic converters on my 11 year old 540. All 3 previous cars have been bullet proof. Change the oil 2x a year no matter what. The only complaint I can think of is that BMW paint is very soft. I have had 2 MB and although the cars were always breaking down the paint was great. Never use terry cloth on BMW paint only microfiber towels.

BMWs have always been good to me as well. I definitely agree about the paint. At one time there were two new BMWs and two new Porsches under my roof and the BMW paint was clearly behind.

I must say the the Metallic Black on the 335 I got for the wife is holding up well, it only gets washed in a commercial car wash (a very good one), and it is remarkably swirl free.
