Surprising what you find?

Just upgrading my dash cam and in process of hiding power cable under glovebox I discovered a 12 volt power socket fitted to the glove box under trim. This socket powers and depowers as per the socket adjacent to the cup holders which was what I had used previously for the now upgraded dash cam.

No indication on page 169 of the Owner Handbook that a power socket exists under the glove box.

Also on this under trim is a Harmon Kardon system speaker and what I assume might be some form of sensor connected back into the climate control system?

I had thought of wiring the dash cam to a fuse way as corresponded elsewhere in this forum but as the position of the now found socket renders any plug connected to it vitually unseen I have saved a bit of time and bother I guess.

For the record my vehicle is 2.5d M Sport registered March 2016.

In case others haven't seen what it looks like; underneath the glovebox, left side:

Not every region gets this, may also be option dependent (code 575 - Additional 12v Power Socket).

I was told this exists if the vehicle had the Smoker's Kit option

How interesting. I have just been and looked under my glove box and found the same plug. It appears to be wired. I ordered the car from new and deliberately did not want the smokers option. Will reroute the dash cam plug and see if it works. Currently I connect into the plug in the centre front console.
It looks to me these cars come with various options built in And hidden but only activated through coding or by accident!
