I don't get NSFW tags

ok
here's what I understand.. technically you are at WORK
shouldn't you not be caught browsing website while at work? does it really matter if there is a bit of nudity? no one is supposed to catch you browsing. I doubt you are paid to browse forums and their links

I guess it's one thing that you get caught slacking off, and something completely different caught with hardcore prOn. but to tell someone off for forgetting a NSFW tag when you are the one being a slacker at your job. pshh

I guess a "nudity" tag should be issued as opposed to a "NSFW". for those browsing with youngsters around

If one of our IT manages browses the internet chache on my computer and sees a bunck of pictures of cars stored, it's not going to be a big deal. If he sees a bunch of pics of porn stored, it IS going to be a big deal. Same thing goes for my manager if he walks around the corner while I'm looking at the forum. Everyone knows there's a lot of non-work internet useage in most offices, but viewing pornography is a whole different situation.

but shouldn't you be working instead?
I get down time.. but I don't accept my employees slacking off because it gets their mind distracted and when actual work comes in, they are too busy reading wikipedia/facebook to get on it fast. That's why I just completely blocked internet access.
Sure, I browse during work, but I'm the boss, and it's a double standard
They get their paycheck regardless of the effort put in. I can't pay them unless I am sure they work.

also you can clear cache...

I just find it funny how people believe it requires a NSFW tag just in case they get caught slacking off...

you seem to miss the point. the NSFW tag isn't to keep a person from slacking off. it's to keep porn from being on your screen, in your cache or logged by the company's proxy. it's 2 seperate issues. i don't care if people see me looking at cars but i sure as hell don't want people to see a half naked chick on my browser.

it's just simple courtesy.

no. as long as i get my work done i'm good. the kind of work i do isn't busy work, it's project/assignment based.. so as long as i do what i need to do to meet dead lines and what not, no one cares. and we do get down time, like when i'm waiting for someone else to do their part and hand it over to me.

don't be so judgemental.

all I'm saying is it shouldn't be called [NSFW]
it should be just called [Nudity]

because technically, browsing a forum isn't safe for work. you can get in trouble for slacking off

aren't you slacker too then, if you're posting at work? just because you're the boss, doesn't mean you don't have to do work and can surf all day...

some of us might not have a lot of work to do, and need to fill that time. for me, the program i was working just got terminated, so while i'm waiting to be reassigned i get to surf all day. before that, i did my work too quickly and was told to slow down, so i surfed.

you need to stop judging people just because they are on the forums during the day...

Well the acronym is way beyond the scope of this forum. It's not going to change because one person is worried about semantics.

well yah
but it's just stupid because it's ok to watch a regular video, but if there is a bit of nudity, all of a sudden you'll get in trouble

it's just a rant

You have to remember, not everyone has the same work environment and work/project schedules.

Some work from home through a VPN to their corporate network, quite often remaining online well outside of normal work hours.

It depends on where you work. Some companies allow personal use of the internet like shopping and banking. Some company see this as a benefit, if you spend a little time shopping online that means you did not leave the building and waste more time. Plus you can still answer the phone and work while shopping online.

Also NSW means more then nudity, it could be a video with foul language and the last thing you is the blasting around even at home with small kids around.

Nudity and foul language on your computer in a work place it the fastest way to get yourself fired these days.

That tag is meant ONLY for bosses surfing porn at work to make sure they use discretion in front of their employees

I get paid based on the job getting done on time, not how many hours I put in. As long as I'm getting my projects done, and handling the customers, my boss isn't really worried about what I'm doing with my time while I'm in the office. I'm on the clock every waking minute basically anyway, and we couldn't do out job without the internet, so blocking it isn't an option.

There's a difference between slacking off, and bringing porn into a work space. It's perfectly acceptable for someone to read a magazine or newspaper on their break, but a Hustler would cause all kinds of problems.

To me it sounds like you are micro-managing. Does it really matter what they do during work hours as long as they get their work done. I'd rather work in an environment that the boss doesn't look over my shoulder every moment. For me, it's: you set a task and date, and I'll complete it on time and beyond expectation. But don't tell me when or how to do it.

This following statement from the OP causes me to believe he's managing people that don't have longterm tasks and instead deal small tasks that pop up at the moment; customers at a storefront for example. There also appears to be a belief that they're fairly irresponsible. In those instances it's not unreasonable to worry about facebook distracting someone when a new task pops up.

OP: what is so hard to understand. The logic is quite obvious and I won't even try to explain it to you. You're too dumb to understand it.

Let's start with this one instead: one plus one equals to two, because....

btw, there're software that can keep track of your whereabouts on the web even if you clear your cache.

LOL i couldn't agree more. just doesn't get it.

the tag is what it is, to let people know its NSFW. let's not steer off topic about work ethics now.

In a scenario with two employees given equal tasks it follows logically that the more productive employee will have more free time, provided there is downtime between tasks. By fostering an environment that holds their nose to the grindstone so closely, and by disconnecting your employees from the internet, you are encouraging people to take more time to do their tasks so that they appear to be working at all times. If you truly "get" downtime as you alluded to, then it becomes obvious that those that get their work done the fastest have the most downtime. As long as their work is of acceptable quality, what does it matter what they do in between tasks?

If you have salaried employees, results are all you should care about anyhow.

i am a sysadmin. most of the people think that i am a slacker because they can't wrap their head around my duties. it's way over their heads.

all they see is me coming in to work at 11, taking a lunch at 12 and then leaving at 5. does this mean i am a slacker? to those people, yes. but when they are at home jerking off to porn at 1am, this is when i do most of my work. at night, while others are sleeping.
