Hi,

First post here but I have been lurking for a while. Still on the fence regarding whether I want an M2 or an M2 C+whatever...just like most on here.

I have followed most of the threads regarding updates but there is one thing on which I have not found anything: ride height/front overhang.

Is it expected that the new car will ride lower or the front overhang will be impacted by new front bumper/lips?

Thanks for any thoughts or insider views.

Please distinguish:
  • MY2019 (starting in Summer 2018) and calendar year 2019 (starting on Jan 1);
  • the M2 Competition (confirmed) and a possible other M2 variant (unconfirmed).
Except if there has been a recent important change of plan, the M2 Competition is supposed to be officially presented this Spring (April) and released this Summer (July).

Having spoken with them he's said it will be announced in the year 2019, although I don't know if they know any more than we do.

Artemis,when M Powwer on 2ertalk.de first confirmed the M2 Competition with the S55 engine back in the fall of 2016,he said the model name CS was for Competition Sport.In the future BMW model list that was posted,it also had the model listed as CS and that it was going to start production in March of 2018.Maybe the CS and Competition names are for the same model that is coming out this year.

Here is what M Poweer posted as a relpy to Emmerich in November of 2016,

Posted 18 November 2016 - 07:50

Emmerich schrieb am 17 Nov 2016 - 17:53:

Already sold out? My friend told me that he wanted to continue to take care of offering an M2 "Club Sport". Club Sport in connection with a M2 special model? never heard . Sounds a bit like golf. Is that all nonsense, or is there something real drann? Who heard something ringing?

The M2 will be discontinued in 2017 as it no longer meets the Euro 6 standard.
Instead, in late '17 / early '18, the "successor" will come under the hood with S55 (from the M3 / M4), and that will be called M2 CS.
The "CS" does not stand for "Club Sport", but for "Competition Sport"

This is the BMW future model list,

That info + screenshot with hyperlink was posted last year in this thread and also summarized in the first post.

Things have moved on in the course of last year.

Gatte will most likely "plead the bunny" (and maybe suggest that you'd write a letter to BMW M HQ in Garching kindly asking to answer your burning M2 variant questions).

Nobody knows what BMW has in store for us. We can however draw conclusions based on what we've seen so far.

We know that there are over 100 vins for BMW M2 variants. These have so far been called M2 CS/Competition/Cs. I think we can all be somewhat confident that there should be some variant of an M2 that should be unveiled fairly soon. We can also be fairly confident that this variant will probably be called M2 Competition because there are multiple people who have heard from various sources that this is what it is expected to be.

2019 is too far off to speculate or know for sure what will happen now. In the course of testing the Competition/CS variants BMW might have also learnt what the M2 is truly capable of. It is too early to speculate what BMW M might do with this knowledge and how or what name they will use to market it.

As Artemis said, you could write a letter to BMW M at Garching asking them this question. They will probably tell you the same as above and then add that you should go get the M2 that is currently available since it is a phenomenal car.

Also reposting this comment in this thread, FWIW:

And don't underestimate the aspect that a lot of potential M2 Competition customers are currently 'off-market':
  • as they already got an M2 (sometimes after a long wait); many of those who lusted for a 1M but were too late to order one, got in line for an M2;
  • as they are not tempted to trade-in in 2018 (possible reasons: unattractive trade-in offers for their current M2, stuck in a 36 or 48-months lease, bad memories about the previous waiting-line experience, or simply because they are not interested and prefer keeping their M2);
  • the fact that the M2 Competition will get a price bump closer to M3/M4 price-territory won't help either.
So I'm curious how well the 'M2 Competition' sales will fare. Inevitably a frenzy the first months, but after that first wave things may quickly cool down.

I'm afraid that should M2 Competition sales (as well as M3 CS and M4 CS sales) fail to live up to BMW's expectations, the fate of a possible hardcore M2 will be sealed (should a ray of light of hope currently still exist for any such car). Can enough M3/M4 customers be swayed to 'downsize' to an M2 Competition ? And competing car brands also release cars that may interest the M2 Competition target group.

Is the speculated 2019 M2 worth trading the 2016 for? I can get on a list at MSRP.

I'm not reading this entire thread.

Question, are 100 vins telling that there may be 2 cars in development? I wonder how many M2 vins there were leading up to the 2016 M2 for example.

This should help you decide. It of course will get a detuned s55 with 405hp (+40hp over n55).

Out of interest which UK dealer told you this? I suspect they are getting their facts mixed up though.

I have had a deposit down with a dealer in Kent for about 12 months now and am No.2 in their queue supposedly. I might pop down to see them in the morning, even though I they will know nothing new..

I believe it will be Competition this year as planned with a possible CS next year. The hard decision is whether to wait for the CS or go ahead with the Competition. I have even thought about going with a current M2 instead of either (for the sound as much as anything else), but if I do take this option, I will wait a while, as the 'official' release of the new M2 will be bound to have an impact on residuals.

BTW; thanks to many of the regular posters here. I have been keeping an eye open here for some time as it seems to be the only place to get good information.
