I think we have to recognize that no one "needs" these cars or options to have fun and go fast, Pcars included. We all come up with rationalizations to justify buying something we really like.....just like $400 sneakers! Just buy what you like, and can afford, and don't look around to see who follows.

No one buys $495 sneakers.

I've actually *met* many M engineers ... and I can only hope to meet them again to ask them in person over a beer and ask WTF and WHO TF stopped you from producing an M2 GTS/CSL.. because I've already seen it .. and it's called the MOTO GP safety car ... it just needs a price tag on it ..

M2 CS in 2018 - M2 GTS in 2019.

For a fair bet an aleatory factor is required.

New CS ordering Jan 2018?

Ordered mine April. Dealer did mention that most likely it will be delivered next year March-April. If I wish to switch my order from the current to CS at January 2018 when dealers start taking the orders, would they allow it??

You ordered a regular M2 for now and want to switch it to a CS? Sorry just wanted to clarify before discussing further

Yes. I ordered regular M2, and was not expecting CS production this early.. If so, thinking to wait additional months and get CS. GTS is not my consideration for everyday usability

If the car is not in any locked-in production stage yet, you should call the dealer now to try to switch it over. Some dealers in Toronto have deposits already, so sooner rather than later would likely be ideal - although I've been told no guarantees of delivery and of course mystery price for now. If you do this report back with your findings!

My dealer is not working today, but sooner i will figure it out.
But if 6MT not available... I would not want to switch to CS haha...
This would be my one and only gamble...

Let me see what i can find out from them.

Your dealer isn't going to know anything. Any info they give you will just be a guess...just like we're all doing here.

I've jumped it and moved my order from LCI (I'd get in 2 months) to CS as it's just another 6 months wait here. if I don't like it I can still take LCI later on. I've already put a deposit on it and after lengthy talk the BMW M representative told my dealer to put in the order "M2 Special Edition".
What's interesting - they took my personal details (name, company name, etc.) and passed it directly to BMW. My dealer told me that it's BMW that gonna be selling the car directly to me thus all that info required.
Maybe (I hope) I'll get some special treatment and offers for special edition models later on (like Porsche does with their special edition car allocations)

I am in exactly the same boat. Have a manual LCI coming, but also ordered a CS. Like you, I'm also not as keen on the CS if it's DCT only. But, I doubt the CS will come so soon, therefore I'm keeping my LCI order which should arrive by Sept.

Are regular M2 orders still taking a year to fill? I thought the waits were 6 months or less now?

Well. That is what the dealer told me. I dont think US should be different from Canada.

Hmmm
I should be thinking more carefully. Will not in my budget if it goes over 100k tho. I will think more over the weekend and call my dealer to hear his thoughts

Based on what people are posting here about recent arrivals, the U.S. is a little faster than Canada for factory order wait times. That is just my impression.

And what is the average wait time from when an order is placed to when car arrives? It's not a year still, is it? I thought it was 6 months or less

In Canada the CS will absolutely be over $100K all-in, DCT only. I'll place a bet on it.

If you are talking about the M4 CS, yes it will be around 120-130k. As far as the M2 CS goes, it won't be even close to that. I am going to say 80-90k tops.

I'm #2 on my dealer's list for the CS and have to say that my ceiling price is $85K Canadian. Anything more and I'm out. If they price it >$100K that's GT4 or base 911 territory and I'd much rather get in a P-car for that money hands down.

I'm kicking myself for having stumbled onto this thread... Have an LCI on order but am now considering the CS.

Since the CS will be taking over as the standard version of the M2, isn't it safe to assume that the price will be relatively the same +/- $5k? If so, and it does come in a 6-speed, holding out for one seems like a no-brainer to me.

It will in all probability not take over the base M2 like how the M4 CS did not replace the base or CP M4.
