RIP - The Thin Blue Line.
Did this seriously happen? That's like an RC-XD from Call of Duty.

Guess the cops were on a 3-kill streak. I'll show myself out.

A few more kills and the snipers would've been toast.

Hey at least we get to see the populace exercise it's right to bear arms and defend itself against an oppressive government. Uzi's for everyone!

Don't bother, there are some people on these boards that are about as willfully ignorant as they could be.

Another day in America, another day with senseless gun violence.

We change nothing, yet expect things like this to stop?

Edit: traffic still at a complete stop. Unbelievable. Let those poor folks go home to their family and get on with their lives.
Mark July 22nd on your calendar. It's the official Mario Woods Day in SF, courtesy of the SF Board of Supervisors who unanimously approved a day to remember a thug.

Just don't even think about driving in Oakland or crossing the Bay Bridge that day.

Another protest planned for today in SF. I'm hoping public transportation doesn't get impacted too bad because the gf commutes to work in the city. As if SF isn't already crowded.

I've been following the 3 threads. I have some thoughts that I hope translate well in text.
1) Urban pacification during war is an us vs them situation. The tools developed for this are designed not just for killing, but also to reinforce the psychology of us vs them. The training and tactics are geared toward us win, you lose. Now those same weapons and tactics have been pushed/given to police. The extra stockpile from war is now in local hands. The very presence of these weapons/tactics pushes the us vs them thought process. This is new in law enforcement.
2) A lot of young officers have been in urban pacification before. They know from living through it that the tactics work. If it works why change. So the LEO whom hasn't done community policing, but has done urban pacification is likely to kill instead of converse.
3) The huge popularity of games like GTA and CoD let's people live vicariously through the game. In a stable individual that's a good and perhaps even healthy thing. But....in a person without proper upbringing and with psychological issues it's problematic. I know a guy that should NEVER own a gun but wants an AR15 because he plays a game and thinks they're cool. The vicarious experience has translated into reality. This is new.
4) Social media can take a small local issue and turn it into "it's like this everywhere". People have become addicted to social media. A few loud mouths can easily excite the crowd. The old example is freedom of speach does not include yelling FIRE! In a crowded theater.

Do I have a solution? No. Are we sliding into the abyss? Seems like it. Is there any hope? Yes.....

Interesting perspective. So, a few newer factors at work - pre-police militarization of the individuals, effects of more realistic gaming violence on the already weak-minded among us, and social media's effect on the aftermath... interesting.

They don't call it going "viral" for nothing.

I have never liked that expression. It was originally used to by Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes rationalizing the jailing of Charles Schenck for protesting the First World War. It was a disgusting decision.
