Thoughts on the Golf R?
Hi guys, I've been looking for a CPO 335xi with a 6 speed for a long time now and haven't found anything. I'm thinking about getting a R to replace my GLI since a new 340xi isn't in my budget. I was looking at ordering an STI Limited, but I don't think I'd like the stiff suspension and boy racer look even though I'm 24 years old. I'm an accountant so I also don't know what clients would think lol. What are your thoughts on the R? Thanks!

I think they are great cars.. tons of bang for your buck... An the interior isn't low rent, nor are the features/design cheap feeling.
But... a big butt... and then you have |

My vote is keep looking for the bmw. I wouldn't drive the golf and the subis still have glass engines afaik.

Yeah...I agree haha. The other thing I left out is I'm a 24 year old staff accountant for a large public accounting firm. I made a comment about wanting a BMW and a coworker made a comment along the lines of 'they must have raised the starting salary since I started' so I thought I should wait a few years before getting one. They don't know my financial situation or that I'm a car enthusiast though.

There's quite a few golf Rs near me, I live in a town centre and on a Friday/Saturday night I see all of them driving like idiots every weekend without fail.
Infact any time of day I don't think I've ever seen one being driven sensibly. They are definitely the "in" car for the boy racer who can afford something more than a corsa. Personally given the choice I would go for the S3 sedan. Or stick to looking for a BMW. If your looking for a golf sized car, what's wrong with the 135? Not a car you see often |

My senior engineer winges like mad that posh cars are unnecessary (she drives a fiesta). THe fact is I enjoy driving my car so I'm prepared to spend a larger proportion of my salary owning one. |

I'm not a fan of most Ford products, but you are coming off like a stuck up douche bag.
Regardless, you are considering a FWD car. Don't. Well, if you are the douche bag that I'm guessing you are, then please buy a FWD car. It will be great! |

After watching those videos, I'd go for the Focus RS!
But, the reviewer did make a good point for the Golf R, and that was that 90% of the time, this is the car you would want for the overall experience. The other 10% of the time, the RS is quite the hooligan machine.

The golf R is an amazing car. It's just like the GTI except $15,000 more and has all-wheel-drive.
Avoid the STi unless you have a good spine and kidneys |

Yeah the STI is out. If I did go with the R would it be a bad idea getting turboback exhaust and a stage 2 tune? With my job I don't know if that would be "professional" lol.

A loud exhaust is not professional.

Now a days first appearances count for a lot. If it was a diesel Id say go for it and add a bit more growl. A turbo back on any car is noisy and extremely noticeable. |
