Incorrectly installed bumper... need advice
Hi all,
Been a while since I posted here, but it's good to be back. I live in Calgary, AB, Canada, and a few months ago during an ice storm, I got rear ended. Surprisingly the damage wasn't that bad (no cracks, just a major scuff). I decided to have a local auto-body shop friend of mine fix the damage, and while he painted it to look like new, it seems that the drivers side rear panel is not "hooked" in correctly. From the below video on YouTube, and it seems there is a black bracket that the bumper hooks on to: (go to 8:13 to see the bracket). Below is a picture of my drivers side panel. As you can see from the picture, it seems there is a large gap between the top and bottom panels. My buddy said this is normal and the piece just hooks on to a bracket. However, the large gap makes me doubt him. It seems "not" normal. Does the large gap, mean that my friend installed the bumper wrong? Last edited by derek.megyesi; 05-08-2021 at 11:03 PM.. |

If the rear bumper isn't slid into the bracket then it usually 'bulges' out and you can move it in and out with your hand. It's possible that when you were rear ended the bracket moved a bit too.

Most likely, IMHO, that's what happened. The bracket is stretched/moved during the impact.
