What makes X1 feel cheap
1. Cheap looking plastic stereo, vent and media knobs.
2. When closing, door makes sound that you normally hear from $20k sub compact cars. Door feels way too light. 3. Creaks you hear from plastic door moldings. Not something you would get from $40k luxury compact SUV IMHO. Thanks, |

To each their own. Coming from a 2005 325i, my 2021 X1 feels worth every penny I paid. No creaks and no idea what you mean by the doors being too light.

It depends on personal expectations. I don't consider the BMW X1 to be a "luxury compact SUV". BMW is a luxury brand and they do have luxury vehicles, but the X1 is entry-level.
A number of international brands (not just automobiles) offer entry-level products partly to attract new buyers who will move up to their higher-end products and partly to appeal to brand snobs. To me, the X1 is a nice car overall. Doors sound okay to me and I don't have creaks from plastic door moldings. When it comes time for me to buy a replacement, I may not buy another X1, nor even another BMW. Every brand will have new products that I will investigate before making a decision. |

X1 is an entry level BMW. Compared to it's "luxury" entry level competition. (GLA, QX30, Q3, UX) it has a better fit/finish and better packaged. The only exception for quality is the XC40. To me quality is on par with my last gen F10 5 series and much better than my e90 3 series. F10 has more features, F48 has been WAY more reliable. (knock on wood) I also prefer the Dakota leather on the F48 over the Nevada in the F10. Nappa in my previous X86 Z4 was way better than both.
To me the budget parts of the F48 are the hard plastics lower down, non-acoustic windscreen, and lack of some features such as blind spot monitoring, 360 camera, curb cameras, higher-end iDrive system, gesture control, full digital gauge cluster, etc. If you don't like the control knobs then AliExpress has some aluminum covers for them in silver/red/blue, but unfortunately they look quite chintzy. But there may be another brand out there that looks more premium. Last edited by ZZZZ; 05-06-2021 at 11:17 PM.. |

For me the build quality (weight of doors, etc.) feels substantial and reasonable for the price. I've spent most of the past few years sitting in the back of rickety Chinese EVs, so perhaps that's coloured my opinion a little.
Although, I did find it incredibly cheap that cruise control is not included (in my region) as a standard feature. I mean, come on... |

What makes it feel cheap?
The fact that it IS cheaper and the entry model, there's no question it's the runt of the litter in the BMW lineup, but then it also doesn't have a starting price north of $60k That doesn't make it a great value and a wonderful vehicle, but it's not a $100k X7 |

When I was in the market for a new vehicle last year, the x1 was the best choice. I test drove the GLA 250, Q3, Macan, F Pace, Discovery Sport, and the Cadillac. All within the same class. All cars mentioned, the x1 was the Best Buy for me at $38,500. All the others were mid 40s and up. My x1 came loaded with premium package for well under 40k. No brainer decision for me. Not too many complaints with the x1, except the door storage which is oddly shaped and hard to fit bottled water. Everything else about it I really like.

Not quite sure of what you mean. All vehicles mentioned, are all luxury brand names, and all in the same class of compact suv. The x1 was the best bang for my buck$ and fully loaded, and the only one that was under 40k.

The m package upgrade makes the interior and stuffs like the wheel nicer. Really like the aluminum dashboard with blue accents. The Dakota leather seats are pretty nice too. It’s a must get I think if you are getting the X1. Honestly I have no complains. It’s great value I think. Def don’t cheap out on it or you’ll end up feeling cheated.

To some extent, I have the same thoughts. It is an entry-level SUV or as BMW would have you accept an SAV. It is a utilitarian type of vehicle.
