It makes you wonder if there is more to this outbreak that we're being told. I'm not a conspiracy theory time because I don't think governments know how to keep a secret.

Masks are really only good for preventing the wearer from spreading stuff to other people. They don't do much at all to prevent becoming infected.

Indeed ! I used it already 2 days , downside is I got foggy windows because it's cold outside .

Long story in short :
Yesterday at work we had already 2 huge panic situations !
2 people were suddenly very sick with the virus symptoms , fever ect... Today I heard they have the flu ..
So...Actually it's no joke . The whole situation puts us in confusion , because we are hit by the flu as well !
For the moment the roads are empty over here ... I'll stay at home over the whole weekend .
But at work we are adviced to avoid contact as much as possible .
Again ...I've never seen this before !

It appears the coronavirus starts off with flu symptoms? So it's very difficult not to react when you see this.

In the greater Seattle area (about 60 miles from me) a large high school was shut down for days when a faculty member returned from international travel with symptoms....they were quarantined and tested - the person does not have coronavirus. Another person in the Seattle area and in the Portland area have been quarantined with symptoms.

Yeah . I see . Just saw on CNN the first dead in the U.S.
From our local newsflash we should avoid public places. Actually that's really funny , as we know we/I have to work at companies .
If this is going to take a long time . The worldwide economic situation will go completely down .
Don't want to spread panic , but for the moment I can only hear fear from my family and friends .And in my neighbourhood I see no soul anymore => https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

You have no choice my friend..you have to wear a mask at work if they expect you to attend and rub your hands with alcohol/gel frequently.

The first US fatality happened about 25 miles from where we live in the greater Seattle area.

Guys, the race hasn't yet been cancelled. The linked article is from February 12th and it only points out the race has been postponed, which we already knew. Not to mention the official F1 website has no article confirming the cancellation, nor do any other of the third party websites I frequent.

Thats true, but only of the cheap face masks you see on most photos. N95 respirators, which look similar, are designed to filter out virus particles.

Per the FDA: https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/...respirators#s3

Quote:
N95 Respirators

An N95 respirator is a respiratory protective device designed to achieve a very close facial fit and very efficient filtration of airborne particles.

The ‘N95’ designation means that when subjected to careful testing, the respirator blocks at least 95 percent of very small (0.3 micron) test particles. If properly fitted, the filtration capabilities of N95 respirators exceed those of face masks. However, even a properly fitted N95 respirator does not completely eliminate the risk of illness or death.

N95 respirators are not designed for children or people with facial hair. Because a proper fit cannot be achieved on children and people with facial hair, the N95 respirator may not provide full protection.

N95 Respirators for Use by the Public

The FDA has cleared certain filtering facepiece respirators (N95) for use by the general public. To work as expected, an N95 respirator requires a proper fit to your face. Generally, to check for proper fit, you should put on your respirator and adjust the straps so that the respirator fits tightly but comfortably to your face. For information on proper fit, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not generally recommend facemasks and respirators for use in home or community settings. However, they may be appropriate for persons at increased risk of severe illness from influenza or other respiratory diseases. Please consult with your health care provider for more information about when to use N95 Respirators at home or in the community.
The FDA has cleared the following N95 respirators for use by the general public in public health medical emergencies:

3M™ Particulate Respirator 8670F
3M™ Particulate Respirator 8612F
Pasture Tm F550G Respirator
Pasture Tm A520G Respirator

These devices are labeled "NOT for occupational use.”

This is crazy! Must be quite the sight.

It is surreal to be living in an area where the first US coronavirus fatality has occurred.
