Hmmm...seems my Jan 2016 build should be ok then. Can anyone recommend a good wifi obd dongle for iOS? The Carly ones seem expensive.

I would recommend you get the Generation II Carly one.

They are quality units and the only ones 100% compatible, especially on the latest codings.

Last thing you want is to save a few bucks and have the ECU you want to code not available or have the dongle loose connection or something half way through writing the code to the car.

I've checked what is possible with F48 and saw that it doesn't support enabling tail lights with DRL and turning signal options are limited to 1 and 3 blinks. We already have 3 blinks in our cars. They are big drawbacks for me. If I'll pay about 100 Euros for the adapter and the app, it should be flawless.

D'oh! Taillight DRLs were the only important option that I wanted!

One-click tailgate closure and folding mirrors aren't that important. Guess I'll have to wait a bit longer...

I asked the Carly people about these and a few other things that are available by other coding software (E-Sys), and their response was:

Quote:
Thanks for the ideas. When it is possible with other apps, it may be possible with Carly in the future.

We work on new codings regularly and handle them by demand and technical complexity.
So it would be worthwhile dropping them a line via their contact page stating what you'd like to see included with Carly:

Waiting to get a 2017 X1 again to see if the new update works on it (Hopefully very soon)
Earlier F48 X1 were supported for some functions for the last 2 updates, but not 2017 X1 or others on the latest BMW software.

I'm seriously tempted to order this. I had the regular ethernet adapter and tried that coding and the walkthrough's I had for backup and whatnot were not matching what I had available.
I've coded previous VAG products, but had a more controlled interface. The Carly looks like it will provided that more guided less likely to brick the car solution (expensive brick!).

Does anybody know if there is a US distributer for the adapters?

Got a chance to test the latest Carly version on a 2017 X1 again.

It is now partly compatible.
You can access 2 ECU's ( The other 2 still have to new a software version for Carly).
Better than 0 before the update.

Accessible are Instrument cluster and Crash safety Unit (CSU)

CSU allows for seat belt reminders to be changed
Instrument cluster allows things like Boot logo, Digital speedo, etc etc

From July 2016 build there were a number of differences on the cars. These cars are 2017 model year cars.

Things include different software, new Idrive controller, passenger side mirror no longer dimming with auto dim mirrors, business NAV standard in many countries, model spec differences in many countries.

You car would be a 2017 model year with that production date.
Car Model years do not follow calendar years, nor do they change at the same time every year.

2018 model year X1 will get a new Idrive system with Apple Carplay as a option sometime during the calendar year 2017.

I had the same confusion re: 2017 so glad to see the answer here.

As a follow-up - can anyone list out key differences for 2017 models? My one is in production as of Monday so interested to hear what would be included/removed as part of an model spec change.

UK members could give a more accurate detail of any UK specific changes but all X1 got the following changes:

1) New Idrive controller for business Navigation
2) Passenger mirror no longer dims if you have the dimming package
3) Sport seats only have driver side storage with the storage compartment package.

We got things like Business Nav now standard, traffic info standard, Connected drive standard.

Hi E90Fleet,

Do you know if it is possible to change turn signal from 3 to 5 with Carly
My X1 is a 25i from January 2016.
I also want to change Start and Stop to Off by default and doors led lights on in reverse gear.

Many thanks

JP

F48 can only choose between 1 and 3 for the turn signal ( some other BMW's can choose 5)

I havent got access to a 2016 model at the moment but the Carly website says for the F48 you can do Start Stop Off or Memory aswell as the door lights on reverse
