Upgrade my X1 with Harman Kardon Tweeter

I drive my X1 with full satisfaction for the past 2 months
I ordered the "Hifi Upgrade" with the amplifier and center speaker.
The sound is very good, good bass and full mid, but I missed the sparkling high. The "Hifi Upgrade" missing the tweeters ( EU Packages )

I ordered separately tweeters (HK) in parts from the BMW dealer.
They are grids with a complete door frame, the tweeters are standard in the grid ( 60,- dollar each )

Installation time about 20 minutes per door, and it fits perfectly.
Solder the wires on the midrange speaker.
The tweeters have standard filters in the connecting wires.

It sounds great now! Sparkling high !

Great work. Nice idea. Do you know if the standard audio system has floor mounted subs?

The grilles are there, under the front seats - haven't actually checked to see if noise comes out .

Must say that while there's not a lot of bass, it's pretty punchy with the right track.

Hi hart4bmw,

I called my local BMW and they said that
part numbers "51337435817 & 51337435818" are just the trim pieces.

You would need to buy the speakers as well
Part number: 65139226357

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/65139226357/

Please confirm, I would like to do the same upgrade as you!

Thanks in advance!

Funny that said my BMW dealer also.
I also ordered two separate tweeters and two separate grids
But when the stuff came in, the tweeters were already incorporated in the grids.
(Total 4 tweeters were delivered, 2 in the grids + 2 separately)
The BMW dealer did so two tweeters loose on ....

hart4bmw, thanks for the quick reply!

To my understanding, all I would need for this to work are:

51337435817 & 51337435818
Those pieces have the speakers already integrated?

Correct?

Thanks!

A better pic of the splice would be cool. I imagine it's just tapping the tweeter +/- to the mid +/-.

Any advice on the door removal? I haven't found any instructions and do not want to break anything on this new car.

stuff inside?

I did not do the installation myself,
I saw that they have removed 3 or 4 screws in handle and bottom panel
Then you need to detach the panel from the click brackets to the underside of the door
Then hang the top of the panel to the window frame, and then you raise it gently from the door.
The wiring of the LED lighting is still well attached to your panel, which you do not disconnect, is not necessary. You have plenty of space, see the photos.

Just try careful! Good luck!

I did this yesterday myself to my 28i M Sport. It does make a big different in soundstage and detail. If anyone has questions on technique, let me know. I would recommend a blanket on the ground so that the door card doesn't get marred (not comfortable with what's shown in the pics here). Thanks to everyone in this thread for the help!!!!!

Very cool! Definitely miss the depth of the sound from the HK system in my old E92. My X1 is leased but may be a worthwhile investment anyway. Will have to look more into what involved with removing the door. That scares me a bit. I don't want any squeaks or rattles after.
