Apart from being an awesome colour it has the benefit of hiding dust and dirt. During most of the weekend the weather here was rainy with lots of African dust in the air. The car still looks fine from a distance, you have to get next to it to notice the dirt.
This is quite a relief since my last car was metallic black and you can imagine that it actually never looked clean.
The thing with platinum silver is that you cannot see it properly in the configurator. Thankfully my local dealer had an active tourer in the showroom in the same colour and just a day before payment he brought an X1 20d too!
There was a big discount from the Greek BMW subsidiary company regarding already imported cars in limited quantity and few colour selections and I am glad that the seller insisted on this after telling him i would not want any dark coloured one.
The only drawback was that there was no real choice of extra equipment. However, in the case of the sdrive 18i (auto) in the xline advanced package (plus only mirror pack) the retail price, before taxes and duties, is just 55 euros far from changing tax level and thus being burdened with an extra 2000 euros of taxes (high taxes and duties imposed by our left-wing government last year).

It is a nice colour and does hid dirt very well, have had colours that are similar in shade in the past. I fell for the Mineral Grey and looked dirty as soon as I drove on damp roads ...

KPD I noticed that your X1 has some chrome around the windows. Do you remember if this is standard in the xline trim or a separate piece of equipment that you added. Mine despite being the same colour and trim hasn't got these chrome strips and I was wondering why.

Must agree. The base system is considerably improved on F30. I do believe though that whilst it is amplified, cheap speakers are a failing point. Loss of clarity at 50% vol onwards.

I was however quite relieved to note the volume indicator bar.

Standard with xLine here in the UK.

amazing that the first color I liked on Carwow.com was this platinum silver. Then I saw your pictures! It isn't available in the US, sigh.
