Thanks for the overview!

Sooo very happy that BMW allows the X1 to be ordered without run flats and with a conventional spare tire in the lower storage space in the trunk/boot. That was almost the first option I selected when ordering. Hate noisy run flats with a passion. Getting rid of them on my 6er made a night and day difference.

Any updates after a few weeks of ownership? The good and the bad?

Not much to add for now, I'm afraid. My average efficiency figures are still more or less the same, about 20~25% off the official figures.

Automatic city braking (or whatever BMW calls it) has kicked it once or twice (only visual warning so far both on HUD and instrument cluster). Pedestrian detection hasn't worked yet.

One thing I noticed, I don't have voice command. I have the expensive wide screen satnav with all the connectivity bells and whistles. There is no mention of it in the owners manual either. So it might not be available in the UK at all. Holding the voice command button activates Siri as normal.

One thing that I find seriously annoying is the way BMW automatic folding mirrors and key fob operate together. I'm used to the mirrors being folded automatically when the doors are locked (either via keyless or fob). But BMW mirrors are only folded when the lock button is held for a few seconds. Once click only locks the doors and won't fold the mirrors... The problem is that holding the lock button on the fob also closes the panoramic roof's sun visor for as long as the button is held. This means every time I fold the mirrors using my fob, sun visor also closes a little bit. I have to manually open the visor every time I get into the car OR fold the mirrors via the button on driver's door. I have no idea if this can be programmed or not. But as small as it may be, it becomes really annoying after a while.

Don't know if this can be coded independently to the sunroof (don't have it), but its possible to reduce the time you need to hold the button to fold the mirrors (also to 0).
Should be similar to the F3x.

Thanks again. Any comments on ride and road noise, given you have RFTs?

Ganxxta, cheers for that. I'll check with my dealer when I get a chance.

ttimbo, nothing new since my last comment re noise HERE. Regular tyres will definitely feel as quiet as a luxury sedan. My RFTs on 18" sound a little harsh on bad roads. But are tolerable on regular roads. 19" will be hell, I'm sure.

Thanks for that...those RFTs do the car no favours

Another question: how dirty does the car get? My Alpine White F20 sucks up the most wet road grime I've ever experienced for a hatchback (cf. Golf, Audi), meaning that unless I'm dressed down, I need to take great care not to touch the rear bumper when unloading the rear. I'm hope the X1 won't suffer the same, and that BMW has employed some aero that flows road grime and spray away from the car.

It's more noticeable on the sides. It doesn't show as much on mine because of the darker colour. But front wheel splash goes up to about knee height on front doors. Lower rear bumper isn't that bad. Mid height and lower half of the window get dirty if you're driving fast on the motorway and there is a lot of spray.

Mud flaps are briefly mentioned in the accessory brochure (no photos or reference numbers). But I can't find anything about them on BMW's pathetically awful UK website. I have no idea if they'll do the job.

Thanks...sounds like another dirty beemer ?

I doubt mud flaps will make much difference, as it's the airflow patterns that spray and suck the grime onto the car.

You can always get a coating like Opti-Coat Pro to make cleaning easier. Plus when it rains water just slides off!

I doubt the dealer will/can help you.
You should find someone with coding equipment near you, easier and you might get more nice things

Look for example into the F30 coding board

I have a similar product on my F20. While it makes the car easier to clean, and water/spray "beads", there's still a dirty residue unless you can hose the car straight after a trip

@DeltaFX1942, I actually have the nano coating thing. Clearly works in rain and you can see the droplets just gliding down with minimum resistance.

RE coding, @Ganxxta, I'll definitely look into it when I get a chance.

RE Voice Command, turns out it's only available with "Enhanced Bluetooth" (6NS) for an extra £350, which I don't have. Very silly of me to think it was part of £1,500 Navigation Plus pack.

KPD - have you managed to find out any more about whether you can lock doors and fold mirrors with one press on the fob?
Thanks

Haven't had the chance to look into it to be honest. The only way to do it using the fob is to press and hold.

Ganxxta suggested that the delay could be shortened to 0 (one click, no need to hold). But that'll require reprogramming the fob.

Basically you need to code the car, in FEM_BODY there should be a value called KOMFORT_SCHLIESSEN, on my F32 default was 0F.

Its in 100ms steps, so default is 1.5 secs.
I changed it to 2, so 200ms, but you can change it to 0 as well.

Should be similar on the X1 as well.

KPD, ref the mud flaps when I ordered my X1 middle of last month I asked about mud flaps and was told they are not making them for the F48 X1 yet, and had no idea if they were intending to produce them.

I only saw them mentioned in 2015 accessories brochure (see page 5). There are no photos and the brochure might be outdated. So either it'll be released later or not at all.
