Agreed. Here in Canada, sport seats are part of premium package enhanced which is kind of mandatory to take when buying this vehicle. BMW could have done better on seats rather than just picking from mini.

I'm not saying that the X1 sports seats are the best seats in the world, but they are SO much better than the standard seats. BMW should be embarrassed selling any vehicle with those standard seats.
As I've said elsewhere, wouldn't have bought the car if I couldn't have had the standard seats. I'm 6'1" with 33" inside leg, so not tiny. Never been bounced out of the the seat either, even when thrashing the car on mountain passes - the seat belt holds me in!

Also, I can sit comfortably in the back with the front set for me - can't do that in a 3er.

What all this goes to show is that people are different - I'm just glad BMW makes a car that suits me

I'm not quite 6', with quite long legs. I found the standard seats too short, but the sports seats are great, just right for me. I also recall another forum member, 6'7", who said he "tries cars on" more than test driving them, also found them comfortable. So it seems to me that potential owners, as always, must look into this aspect of the car very carefully, and also take some time in adjusting the driving position carefully as part of the test drive. It is also important to note you sit higher in the X1 rather than in, say, a BMW coupe, which makes for a different experience.

Sport Seats and CarPlay are options in 2017 X1

I just talked to a dealer here in California that confirmed that Sport seats will be an option in the 2017 model without having to get the M Sport package.

I haven't sat in the Sport seats yet, but the standard ones are a little minimalist and short for me and I'm only 5'8".

He says the 2017 should be available to order towards the end of the month.

Also, Apple CarPlay is an option in the 2017 model, so with those two changes, it seems well worth waiting for the new model.

I seems the Canadians get the best value in the packing.

Premium Package - Essential / Premium (without Nav / with Nav) provides almost everything that's needed on this car, including the sports seats, but minus lumbar support.

I've sat in the sports seats during my test drive, and its fairly adequate for me (6'0 with 32' pant length legs). and I drove the vehicle with the thigh support at the shortest position.

Sport seats are now indeed a $400 stand alone option for 2017. Great deal and glad to see them as I am 6'7" and the standard seats are not comfortable.

The only catch is that you also have to get the leather interior if you want the Sport seats, which is a $1450 upgrade (or $1550 for the luxury package.)

I was hoping to get Sport seats with Sensatec. So it ends up being $1850 or $1950 more to get the Sport seats. Sigh.

Yes you're right, leather is a must to get them. Thanks for clarifying that.

I don't think this is correct for US orders. The 2017 Pricing Guide has no such restrictions, and bmwusa.com lets you configure Sport Seats together with Sensatec.

I just checked bmwusa.com and it looks like Sport seats are available with black Sensatec, but not beige.

Canadian packaging is MUCH more straight forward IMO. I work closely with Canadian BMW retailers and I have never seen a new X1 with the non-sport seats as sport seats are part of the VERY basic Premium Essential package, which most customers want. If for some reason you wanted the regular seats in a Canadian-spec X1 you'd have to special order it with literally no equipment. No panoramic roof, power trunk, navigation, heated steering wheel, etc.

Funny that for 2017 USA customers will gain the option of sport seats, while here in Canada we will gain the option to delete them

I'm in the UK and have the M-Sport, i find the sports seats very comfy compared to my A5 or Chevy Volt, the thigh extension is a must though, without it i'm not so sure about them, and if you choose the EDC option you can have both stiff and soft suspension at the touch of a button so that is another option?

The sports seats are even worse than the stock seats for people that don't resemble stick figures! The side bolsters on the bottom seat cushion are very rigid and cut into your thighs! Test drove the sports seats and was in tears after 20 minutes! BMW, fix the seats!!!!

Hmmm...I'm no stick figure...1.77m, 90kg...and I find the X1 sports seats very comfortable...pretty much on par with those in my F20 M135i...but they are different seats

I don't agree, 185cm and fat, with very fat thighs (i.e. my fat ass is on the border of the seats), I would have comfort issues in a proper sport seat, but "sport" seats in X1 are as sporty as the car is a SUV. Just looks the part.
My original plan was to buy 3er GT and the sport seats there were actually less comfortable even though a bit larger, but it was like sitting on a school chair.
The standard MINI seats in X1 are a joke, but the "sport" seats I find rather comfortable.
But don't take me too seriously, I only drove the car a bit around the block as dealer's test drive and then one longer 2 hour drive with a colleague who owns one.

It's a fact that the sports seat is exactly the same width as the stock seat. I actually brought a tape measure along to make sure on both test drives. What makes the sports seats worse is the side bolsters on the bottom cushion. The side bolsters on the back support cushion is great, but the bottom seat is horribly torturous!

I test drove the X1 with a buddy of mine who just ordered one. M Sport Line with the Premium Enhanced and Executive packages here in Canada. It came with the sport seats but my buddy found the sport seats too narrow that the seat bolsters (seat cushion part, not the back cushion part) dug into his thigh when he drove. He opted to delete the sport seats to just get the standard seats. On the other hand, I didn't have the problem he had with the seat bolsters. We both found the back bolsters decent. The standard seat are shorter, kind of just like the back seats in the X1, so taller folks might find the standard seat would make the back of the thighs uncomfortable during extended journeys. My buddy is just around 5'9" so he decided that the standard seat is the lesser of two evils for him. I myself would have kept the sport seats.

I'm wondering if its sport seats with lumbar support many are complaining about?
Lumbar support option is quite rare here and the sport seats without it is very popular with large and tall people including myself.

The lumbar support may just we narrowing the seat a bit ?

nope, people are complaing about the side bolsters for your legs, not the upper side cushions /lumbar support. And it is very individual, some hate it, some can accept it. It is tricky to find optimal seating position, I have a very comfortable position on the passenger seat and can't seem to find the same one behind the wheel. I do not make a lot of longh trips, maybe 1x or 2x a month 450-500km trip in one day, but usually it is below 100km a day, so I can get by even in much less comfortable seats, but I fear in my x1 I will be complaing on a longer trip (1200km) I will take in November - because for me even the sport seats with the front extension all the way out I find the seats just an inch or two short for my ideal comfort, I like if the seat can support thighs all the way to the knees.

If we had only the standard seat option we WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT an X1!!!

DO NOT buy one unless you can get the Sports seats.

My last 6 BMWs (out of total 10) have had sports seats for a reason - they are sublimely comfortable and multi adjustable.

Standard seats are total rubbish.

Take heed of my warning, or regret it!!

The moca seats are a great colour... does appear the you either get the M - Sport with the M seats or you don't. Interested in an X1 to replace my Outback.

Per the title...'I'm confused' by the OP having the Irish-Texan user ID with an Avatar of Chelsea FC : each to their own!
