I knew that, didn't know when they'd start to hit dealers. I've got a lease ending in early September so this could be an optional replacement.

Does anyone have any information on the possibility of BMW offering the new X1 with a manual transmission? I know it's a long shot, but there was one spy shot that showed a stick on one of the prototypes being tested in the US, so I have a glimmer of hope. I'm pretty confident that the new Countryman will be available with a manual and it shares platforms with the X1, so maybe?? I'd trade my Outback in 3 seconds if the new X1 comes with a stick.

I've heard that it will be, but who knows. Below article says "yes."

I'd put the odds at less than zero for the US, but the ROW certainly will. The dealer acted like I was a leper for asking if they'd ever offer the F31 with a manual and/or without xDrive.

If you want the new X1 with a manual, go next door and get the new Countryman when it arrives.

You've clearly forgotten to factor in the negative value BMW USA's dumb decisions bring to the table.

Thanks, yeah, I agree the chances are low (but above zero, and I'm going to keep dreaming).

ROW? What is that?

P.S.
When I bought my 435xi, one dealer didn't even want to talk about manuals. The other dealer (30 min away) had several on the lot for me to test drive. My sales person drives a 335 manual and had just sold his father a 435 with a manual. So it clearly depends on the dealership. Needless to say, I bought from the latter dealership.

My X1 has over 1000 road course miles on it and I pass M3s and Porsches with ease (I have actually never pointed by a e92 M3, ever). Have passed countless GT3s (although let's be honest, GT3s driven by a truly fast driver are rarer than unicorns) and even a few GTRs.

Am I a minority customer? Absolutely. Just a bit sad as BMW used to cater to the enthusiasts like me. I will be purchasing my current X1 (it is leased) as there is really no replacement for it on the market from any brand.

I wish BMW would leave it as-is with the N55 engine, 80% rear wheel bias, cut 100lbs weight, and update to the new idrive and a dual clutch. That would be hot-hatch perfection.

Wow. You're the exact opposite of a hooner. You're an expert driver!
Thanks for sharing. Some day next year I hope to do my first track day.

And yes, I dread the day that the 3 Series becomes the smallest RWD BMW. But who are we to second-guess BMW management? They have the big picture, the long-term plan. Their obligation to BMW shareholders is to increase worldwide sales, market share, and profitability. All while investing enough in R&D to stay ahead of the competition in at least some areas of automotive technology.

Tough job. But we all knew that. And if BMW management thinks that small = FWD, medium = RWD, large = RWD, and M = AWD, then so be it. The long-term success of the company is the most important goal.

That's pretty cool!

We can see the aftermarket brakes and wheels. What else are you running? It's lowered so there must be some suspension mods? What about engine mods? Tires? Exhaust?
