I hope they brought Tomahawk (cut with lightsabre, then medium rare) to your bedroom each night, and put gold-leaf mints under your pillow

What was it that made it worth it? Not judging, everyone values things differently, but curious.

First, congratulations on being a dad. Regarding the trip, my advice would be to try to get past the screaming kid fear and try to enjoy the experience as if you were a kid again. For you to watch your daughter having the time of her life will be a lot more fun for you if you are not hating hearing the screaming kids.

I used to be that guy. My wife, with her infinite wisdom, told me to man up and enjoy watching the kids having so much fun. I took her advice and actually enjoyed myself. That was many years ago and now we are doing the same thing again with grand kids.

Regarding budget, 10k sounds fine if you are okay staying outside the park. You can get a very nice room for less than 2k for the week. Check booking.com and see for yourself. Park ticket prices are $109 per day adult so even if you went 7 days, that's 2k more. That leaves 6k for everything else, or 1k per day. To me, that's doable. Of course if you want to go for it, you can eat up 10k in a hurry.

Have fun being a kid again!

One of my best friends has us booked for a big girls trip at the end of Jan to celebrate a milestone birthday. She is a Disney freak. They are going for a week and I don't think I can do it. I think the engineering and design is incredible but just don't love it overall. The thought of riding it's a small world makes me want to I HATE that ride. With. A. Passion. It's what nightmares are made of. Anyway, trying to look on the upside of Epcot.

I could go out do the country for the at least $2-3k it's going to cost just me. Thanks for letting me rant and interrupt your thread

I feel your pain.. If I HAVE to go to Orlando... I prefer Universal Studios way more. It's less crowded, and the rides and themes are actually kind of fun.

We just booked an all-inclusive in Punta Cana for January... so I guess we get the adult trip.... Only fair she gets her kid trip

That's definitely a good attitude to have... and in reality I'm sure once I'm there I'll make the most of it.

What can you spend $1k per day budget on outside of food? If the tickets and hotels are all booked already.... $1k a day seems a bit excessive...

Having lived in FL most of my life I just don't get it. Don't get me wrong, it seems every decade or so I forget what a horrific shit show Disney is and I end up back there only to think to myself ohhhhhh I remember now.... WTF was I thinking!!!!

You literally pay a shit ton of money to stand in line. Literally that is 90% of what you do at Disney. Stand in line and try to make your way through the zombie apocalypse. I think if I had kids I would start teaching them to fear the mouse from an early age so I never have to go.

That being said there are fun things outside of the park. Me and my gf actually use to go to Orlando all the time but not go to the parks. Downtown Disney (I think its Disney Springs now) is pretty cool. The Irish pub they have there is one of my favorite places and they use to have this band play most nights that's great! Lots of good restaurants around the area (lots of shit ones too). There's also lots of springs and outdoor stuff to do within an hour of Orlando and then you have the space center which is awesome. I remember staying at this cool hotel in downtown Orlando that had like this weird New Orleans vibe to it. It was right next to a massive cigar shop.

Anyways... we don't go anywhere near Orlando anymore. However I can't imagine not being able to do a week for $10k unless you require butlers and golden toilets and shit.

I love how my post asking for tips on Disney World has turned into a shitting on Disney World party

But I'm not ashamed to say.... I agree with it all... I'll try to make the most of it when I do go though.

Galactic Star Cruiser star wars experience. All food. All park tickets. Total immersion experience. Look it up. It was a great weekend.
And I should add. Never stood in line for anything. On a Saturday with perfect weather on Father’s Day weekend. You get a special pin that you wear. That pin gets you anything you want with no wait.

Sorry but I can't help it.... when I hear Disney...

Plus the number one tip for any Disney trip is to go somewhere else. If you are forced to go I do believe they serve alcohol.

Not to pile on, but Disney is a sheet show specifically designed to remove you from your money.

Spent a ton to take the kids there a number of years ago. Also did one day where we just went to the beach and explored. (Free).

When we returned and asked the kids what their favorite part of the trip was, it was the beach day.

I'd limit Disney to a day, maybe two, if you really really need to go there. Research the Fast Pass system and go there on the less busy days if possible.

I agree. I said doable just to emphasize that it is enough. It's more than enough.

My son takes his family and they do extra stuff like buy his girls princess outfits and pays for the special breakfasts where the kids get to meet the characters. He does well so he can afford it I guess but you don't need to spend crazy money to have fun. I know this is true because I have wealthy friends who are miserable and broke friends who are happy as can be.

Wife and I are in the same boat. Our daughter will be turning 5 next month and we have been working with a Disney vacation planner for the past 6months or so. The latest price quote for a 2 bedroom suite on the grounds, $20k. Wife and I almost flipped our shit we couldn't believe it. Mind you, that is with my parents, her parents and us. All passes to the different resorts and stuff. Plus, that price didnt even include, food, drinks or airfare.

We had some friends that recently went and said it's not worth it right now. They paid top dollar and hardly any special attractions were open and they felt short changed.

We were thinking about going April 2023 but have reconsidered going and looking at lake houses and a boat instead since we would rather spend that $20k on something better than giving it to someone for 5-7 days.

Best of luck!

There will always be opportunities to spend more money than necessary. Vacation planner? 2 bedroom apartment on the grounds? If this 20k price tag is scaring you away, you can always get a couple of hotel rooms within a mile of the park. You can get nice rooms for 2k each or less for the whole week. The ticket price is $109 each. You probably won't want to go for more than 5 days so that's only $600 each. It doesn't need to be 20k. It just doesn't.

SOme of the prices being bandied about are absurd, and knowing you americans it's likely 50% more with all the hidden fees and charges.

Each to his own but I'd hope to cop a polish from a hottie in a Leah bikini for that kinda money.

I believe it's standard to tip the mouse 30% for mediocre service and 50% for ok service.

I mean... if you are even contemplating forking $20k for a week vacation then I guess you must make enough that it doesn't matter. I would equate it to me not really looking at prices when I go to the grocery store. I rarely go (my gf usually does) but when I need something I just get what I need and pay whatever it is.

I mean I think I make a decent living, but $20k on a week vacation is not even something that would be in consideration. I might as well look into renting a private island full of supermodels because that's about as likely to happen as a $20k Disney vacation.

When we use to go frequently it was a long time ago and I was certainly not making all that much. I would constantly get calls from the timeshares up there offering me 3 nights for free to go to their shitty meetings. I would milk that all the time until they caught on I wasn't buying their crap and they stopped calling. However at the time it was great. Free room at some pretty nice places in exchange for an hour or two of me telling them to fuck off was totally worth it at the time.
