Steering Wheel Change
Has anyone changed the steering wheel on their F48 X1? Mine came with the standard plastic wheel and I'd love to put the sport steering wheel on but not sure fit's possible?

Yes, it's possible and it's not so hard to change it.
Check the airbag of the new steering wheel to be a 2-stage type. If the short steering wheel has paddles, this will require coding. Good luck. |

Thank you Stefan. No Paddles but I'd love to have them on the new SW. I'd imagine it would be a difficult job (if it's even possible).

I have retrofitted the steering wheel with pads, but I didn't used them so often. So this is possible, because the original steering didn't have them.
It is not so difficult to code them, as I understood from the guy who make the install for me. |

Good to know. I'm not sure if I'd use them a lot either but if I'm going to change the wheel, I thought it would be nice to have the pads.

See if this works https://ibb.co/jbP8Xyf I got it from the Mewant Official Store on AliExpress. You can customize it. So if you see a steering wheel cover for an F80 you should be able to have it customized for your M-Sport. |

I did this on my previous BMW F31, but there you had two tiny slits on the back of the steering wheel and all you had to do was to insert a thin but long screwdriver and move the U-shaped clips holding the airbag a bit to the side and the airbag just pops out, the rest is easy. The problem with X1 is that I don't see these slits anywhere on the steering wheel, so how do you remove the airbag? |

Just a quick update. I found this F46 blog where it's explained, including photos, how to remove the same steering wheel found in a X1.
So, for anyone looking to replace their sport steering wheel with a M sport steering wheel, or simply wants to replace the leather as I do, then this blog offers more than enough info: http://*********f46.blogspot.com/201...-retrofit.html |
