Lately I realized that you actualy don't need to have taste, talent or even to know few basic things about design to work in BMW design team..
I was curious as to what you drove so I took a peek at your threads. You're a first generation X1 kinda guy and I see that you had a similar problem with the new gen X1 as well. Fact is that looks like a 20 year old car now. If they repeat those design cues BMW falls behind.

It may not appeal to you but this is the future. Clean, subtle lines are a thing of the past. Either keep up or get left behind!
An X1 owner critiquing any design has to be the funniest thing I've seen all year.

So the really cool 19 inch wheels style 893M that is shown in most of the launch pics do not show up as an available option on the US pricing and option guide on the first page. Are those wheels not going to be available on the US?

Right? Like you know what I own...

Not to mention, whatever somebody owns, he/she can have an opinion.

This shows what poor judgement some people have...
Only a very narrow minded individual thinks like that...!

BTW, what a sad world you are leaving in... Glad to make you smile.

PS
I presume you have no ideea what E84 actually is and what is the difference between that one and the new ones... Or not even the awards in design...
But hey... carry on...

I recently seen the new 2 series coupe at Goodwood, I made this quick video on the exterior and interior if anyone wishes to see it up close?

I admit that the car's looks are starting to grow on me (unlike the 4 series). I mean the side profile I already like from the get-go but the front and rear I'm starting to come around to. It definitely looks like a 2 would.

There used to be a time when a power dome still served the purpose of allowing some extra 'head room' for an engine shoehorned inside an engine bay.

Over time a power dome appears to have become a design feature, regardless of functionality. Some even retrofit a hood featuring a power dome merely for design purposes on a car not needing one.

So to all those wondering why the G42 M240i features a power dome: without it, the hood doesn't close.

it's the wave of the future for cars all over and of all EV vehicles already which are also in our future, its cheaper and less time consuming to just manufacture a car with slapping a wide touch panel that provides an adaptable access of a wide amount of information and control to a never ending list of various vehicular systems. I'll appreciate some dedicated knobs and buttons still but the idrive 18 yrs ago was the beginnings of the push for consolidation prior to touch screen technology becoming common technology.

I noticed lack of 48V mild hybrid system. Will the 2series not get it at all? No complaining because I prefer it that way but just double checking.

Some great quotes from this one, but I think my favorite is,

"Would you say this car was designed in the dark?"

Much respect for Frank...

But I would agree with you on this.
He seems to forget that he had to think "outside of the box" when he designed the McLaren, Ferrari, and the BMW X. Current designers are paid to create.

He's not faulting BMW for thinking outside of the box. Instead, this complaint echoes what everyone has been saying on this forum - it seems like BMW's designs are overdoing it for shits and giggles.

Few points that everyone has mentioned:

Joint kidney grilles - Why? It's a small detail that doesn't add anything to the design and on the 2er, it actually sticks out and not in a good way.

Body lines/creases/surfaces - way too much going on. BMW designs are usually clean. Front bumper of the 2er and 4er is way too busy, not just with weird shapes and huge vents but with creases and lines throughout the entire bumper. This is present on all sides of the vehicles.

I can go on, but that's pretty much the argument against BMW design today. It's over designing something and marketing it as aggressive and bold.

When are we going to be able to build one on bmwusa.com? I thought the 2 was supposed to go into production in August. It's been up on bmw.de for quite awhile now.

The 2 series starts production on September 2nd and dealers should be getting October allocations. I'd hope the BMWUSA site allows us to build them sooner rather than later...but considering they've just switched the X5 builder to a 2022 just a couple days ago...and those cars have been in production since the beginning of this month, I have my doubts.

I should be getting my hands on pricing/ordering guides in the next week or so and I'll share with the community (though I'm sure someone will have one any day now).
