Hi new to the forum, I have an m135i F40. Just finished the install. I cannot seem to find the EWG connector on the car. Anybody here successfully connected one? Just did a JB4 on a B48 X3 and it was easy to access.. I am assuming it's somewhere behind the engine.

I gave up trying because I couldn't unclip the intake charge pipe clip. I believe somewhere Terry Burger said not to bother with the ewg control to someone. I think I could see the ewg better through the passenger side wheel well. There is a diagram or two posted somewhere in one of my posts.

Cheers for that mate! That is heaps helpful. Just to confirm yours is a RHD or LHD? I managed to trip the boostspike and put it in map 8 while doing a launch today on Map 2. I have just downloaded the v19 firmware but haven't installed it yet, have you got that installed? I have just received my Akrapovic mid pipe so hopefully that will help a bit.

Yeah, seems to work without it. We had some really cold wet weather. 13C and torrential rains and the JB4 was doing great I could definitely feel the difference on Map2. But today woth 18C and launch control it went to map 8 in second gear at 3000 rpm

You need to change the universal boost limit up to.. emm 28/29? Sorry go read through the posts again, I don't want to mess you up, but the boost spikes usually to 27.5 which is why you're going into map 8.

Edit:
I just randomly clicked a page previous and it's failsafe boost limit of 30.

Oh sorry and my car is a LHD here in the USA, so I see you'll have more stuff in the way if the steering column is on the right.... not sure how the layout will go.

Have no clue how to do that! Does this mean I am setting up a Map6 custom map with fail-safe as 30 or can I add fail-safe on to Map 2?

Switch between the two and you see for yourself. I found that map2 seems more sensitive/peppy on the daily drive stop and go (in addition to the peak boost increase). Map 1 feels more like "stock".

I have absolutely tried bouncing between the maps but my dumbass cannot tell whether there is an actual difference or if it is placebo.

I did a launch on map 3 with failsafe on 30 as reccomended and no surprise visit to map8 yet.
The launch however was so violent, i thought i broke something in between gear changes as i felt a big thud (similar to the gear change thud) and a bit of power loss similar to a gear shift. The car has no codes thrown and is pulling hard still. I have turned it to map 2 ever since. How safe do you think a launch on Map3 realy is? would you guys actively discourage a Map 3 launch? I am too scared to do another launch to see if the issue was just a gear shift that i wasnt anticipating or something more sinister.

map3 is 6 psi. Don't do it or boom..

What you feel is probably the transmission disengaging hard because I know what you mean when I was trying out the TDI units I was up at six psi and greater at one point.

stick to map2 4 psi or map1 3 psi.

What kind of gas are you running?

Ok Fair enough, i dont know what i was thinking launching it on Map 3, back to Map 2 now and thats where it will live forever. I have 98 RON which is 93 for you guys in the states i think.

Also be careful launching with the JB4 on map 2 boost as the boost is gonna ramp up already to overboost to launch out when doing launch control so it may be too much for the tranny at that hard shock of a launch .

Remember that the ib4 mobile will record your 0-60 on a launch if completely stopped and pedal is all at 💯 to 60+

. So you should be able to compare the 0-60 time on the different maps .

Here is a 0-60 time example on the JB4 mobile .

Thanks heaps for the heads up. I will definitly not be trying that again. just thanking my lucky stars for not breaking anything so far. But i gotta say.. the launch felt vicious. it felt so fast and aggressive that it caught me off guard a bit. I was very impressed and scared at the same time. I think the difference between the standard launch and map 3 launch was at least .5 secs faster to 100kph (62)
