Hello JB4 B48E users, 21M235XGC directed me to this post after disappointing support on the N54 Forum. I have read through many of the posts here, I was running the V19 firmware and I noticed that timing was added sparingly.
I've since switched to V17 and the timing has come to life, I have run map 1,2, and 3 with good results. I only have a FMIC on my car, I installed it in anticipation of the additional heat from the tune and to prepare for an open road course day that I am attending next week. I look forward to contributing to the discussions here. |

Heavy testing today on maps 1 and 2 with v17 software.
87F and pipercross filter. Map 1 is 3 additional psi over stock and super safe. Spikes to 30. Map 2 additional 4 psi over stock and seems safe and spikes to 32. Sticking to map 3 in this heat so I don't go above 30. No failsafe in either. One thing I noticed and don't honestly remember but am I the only one missing Temp IAT readout? |

Hmm I don't seem to be getting updates to this thread much by email, not sure why.
Anyways, I do get my IAT as well, and I'm still using the "stock" gauges like CPwilly. I didn't bother changing the style. I'm just setting it at map2 and forgetting it.. haven't hit failsafe myself in a while, usually I feel the little stutter when it does/did. I'm running the pipercross as well still. |

I'm not sure what version I'm running now.. probably 17.
My iat was 129 today on a 90F day. I do believe if I remember correctly even with my open cover intake it was 137 ish last year. Boost was still 24.5 and timing was at 7.5. As to the other question, I'd much rather have the jb4 vs the jb+ that I can't log or have safety failsafe. Is it worth the extra power? I think so.. I would certainly like to see anyone's dyno .. but others with dragy noticed a good improvement. |

Figured it out. Accidentally. I didn't know if you hold down on a gauge you can change what is displayed. So I rechose IAT. Bam all good. Then I changed my gauge setup to be more inline with my AEM. May fiddle with colors still.

Well mainly because there is no off the shelf flashes for us to do.. MHD does not have it. Although I have a local tuner that is able to flash over the ECU according to his website.. still only the 30hp gains, so unless there's massive benefits.
Also think of it this way.. if the car ever got to BMW and they did a courtesy update, then your ECU will be locked, and the tune is down the toilet. Piggyback will always work no matter what. Also the logging ability is really nice. xcelier8bmw: I just checked this morning and I am running v18. I do believe way back in the day Terry@burger wanted me to update to v18 for the failsafe when he was working on things... but as you guys have shown, v17 seems ok. My timing itself didn't take a dump when I did a quick pull yesterday in the extreme heat so I think I'm perfectly fine with v18 still. |

I actually now think v18 is just fine. However, I have seen and felt better results with v17. I was running v18 in cool weather with no issues. I never ran v18 because I saw your original post and I went with that. Though in the hot-hot-hot dayam it's hot heat right now, v17 or v18 in MAP 1 works fine. I'm sticking with whatever the 'stable' version is and right now it is v17, and well, we will see in the future.
And what is really funny as of today, my AEM LED gauge and the JB4 LED round gauge, matches pretty darn close in regards to boost performance and max. And the upgrade iPhone 12 Pro Max (yeah, that must of burped the IAT readout configuration in software) has a large enough display, though off center works really well. Though I still love the AEM. I would really of wished or wish they can put a boost gauge up via the HUD. Now that would be perfect! |

The JB4 does have this failsafe feature within it's own software and seems to be fine if you don't go setting that boost limit too high. That coupled with not a lot of ECU flashing available, AND the fact that BMW could potentially flash/lock the ECU which would render any of the ECU flash invalid is why I chose to keep with the JB4 for now. |
