Anyone with Aftermarket Wheels?

I'm looking around at how to setup the X2 M35 for optimal handling and the thought of getting lighter wheels crossed my mind. Anyone on here with aftermarket wheels on their car? Would love to see some examples as the TireRack site makes most wheels look good which we all know isn't the case lol.

Same here. After months of research I've finally decided on a set of winter wheels/tires from tirerack for my X2 M35i to replace the 20" summers it came with. FWIW, through research and calling many many dealers (even a few in Canada), I've learned that the only OEM wheels that will fit and clear the calipers are the 715m style (19") for about $3,000 for the set. Tirerack only recently added the M35i variant to their website after they finally got heir hands on one to test out. They guarantee all the wheels listed there will clear the calipers. I'm going with a set of 18" BBS with the Sottozero 3 tires.

Just ordered them a few days ago and they should be here next week! Just in time for the cold.

Well shiver me timbers.. The stock 18 inch x1 wheels barely clear. Pictures to follow..

Yes to seeing pics but also can you measure "barely"? For winter use it's important to have a decent clearance between the caliper and the outer flat surface of the rim.

Here are some pictures.. tight as in a few millimeters. I've certainly seen stock tires this close such as my e60 stock 17 inch wheel was pretty darned close. I rotated it and it moved freely without binding anything. Next couple of pictures are the stock wheels and how much more room there is.

One other neat thing to notice, is that the m35i had different brake shields. They were made out of a different aluminum colored (vs regular steel) and they were sharp. I mean sharp in terms of most brake/dust shields are bent with a lip, this was literally a straight piece of metal.. "maybe" to let air straight into the brake discs? Also here are my winter wheels.. they are pretty aggressive in terms of offset. 19X8.5 with an offset of 25. Tires are 255/35r19. It does stick out from the fenders just a shade, I got them used as a set with everything in them and I'll run them for a couple seasons and throw on skinnier winter tires. First stop at the grocery store someone commented on it which is odd because as a "stock" car I've literally had nobody ask me about it. Could be just luck?

I'm working on getting a good pair of center caps.. stock ones are mercedes one and I'd rather go with an empty socket than a mercedes star

Those look great. The black wheels are a nice compliment to the blue.

Nice! I assume you switched from RFTs. Do you notice any difference in ride/noise/etc?

Ride quality difference was huge improvement over RTF and much less tire noise.

I just got some 20x9 +40 wheels. They should be here in a few weeks. Need to decide on a tire size. Thinking 235/40/20 or 255/35/20.

I put my torque wrench at 120 ft/lb myself. Usually I just do it by my own judgement since I've been doing it for a while. In the past I've tried exactly 100 and the nuts still came loose. Could be my calibration is off on the torque wrench though..

What wheels are these? Are the center caps factory or did you have to order them special from a 3rd party?

Most wheels can use the stock BMW center cap by just popping the other one out. I’m going to try it with my AG wheels when they arrive in 2 weeks.

That's kind of a not so true statement.. I can tell you that my AG wheels did not fit my E60 center caps. I just ordered a set of blanks for mine and CF wrapped it. I'm thinking of ordering some BMW vinyl stickers for them.

You are understating the situation. I've been searching for wheels that accept the stock centercaps and haven't found any other than oem. The older 120 spacing BMW wheels did have many 3rd party wheels that accepted factory centercaps. The 112 spacing, not the case.

Good luck and let us know if they do. I haven't found any wheels other than oem that accept the centercaps for the BMW 112 spaced wheels.
