Ours was a pain to close on one side when new. There is a very simple one nut adjuster on the "U" shaped component on the underside of the hood (or bonnet for UK!). If you adjust the nut so that the "U" gets a bit longer, it makes the hood close much more easily. Just do it gradually until you get a secure close on both sides. I find the hood closes best with a sort of guided shove with both hands, each hand towards the front of the hood aligned with each of the clamps.
