Of course it doesn't, those cars had hydraulic steering. BMW fails at electric steering regardless of which one you drive today.

As a previous F22 owner, I'm more concerned that the moment the M240i is following the G30 with it being xdrive and 8AT only.

What happened to all the reports of the G42 still being the purists choice with a manual and RWD.

EU "truth in advertising" disclosure type laws

you can see the global posts and pressers have them, the NA pressers or bmwusa posts do not

The first post says it will be available in RWD.

There were exactly zero credible reports of the G42 coming with a 6MT.

Well, the Z4 20i can be had with a 6MT, so maybe the 220i will as well at some point, who knows; but nobody promised a 6MT M240i, ever, I think. RWD M240i though is very much on the table according to those reviews, just not from the start.

True story. It's been clear since details of the G generation small vehicle lineup surfaced years ago that the S58 was going to be the only high output engine paired with a manual transmission.

Possible, yes, but that model is obviously never coming to the US either way.

For those who like manual transmissions it cannot be overstated - the G80 M3 (ending 2025), G82 M4 (ending 2027), and G87 M2 (ending 2029) are the very last.

I suspect quite a few cherished G87 6MT keepers being ordered as that 'last hurrah'

I know I'm watching VERY closely for this very reason.

Same. 28 M2C for me to me my last ICE manual. After maybe 5-6 years with it I will be to old to care anymore anyway.

You're never too old to drive a manual.

That's the M340's weak spot, everything else is brilliant in the car. I have had it almost 2 years now and even Lexus manages to offer better steering feel. What they can't figure it out boggles the mind. I heard the new G8X cars are better in this regard as least compared to its predecessor but still not as great as some of it's competitors ala Alfa/Caddy etc.

Car and driver has been on BMW about this for years, with only small improvements.

Shame they can't add two more doors, especially since the car is longer now. It would be nice to have the practicality combined with the driving dynamics.

Sad part is drive by wire is the future and we will all miss the "feel" of actually driving.

"steering feel" is really broken into two buckets
Accuracy and feedback
Customers on the whole want accurate steering, customers on the whole DO NOT want feedback. The small shoebox of enthusiasts non-withstanding.
I think the best example was C+D did a preprod test drive of the G20 330 and the engineer along for the ride explained that too much feedback made the preferred driving style (one hand on top of the wheel) noticeably more difficult to manage.
While its true feedback is harder to engineer with electric, if it made a difference to overall customer NPS and sales BMW would find a way to engineer it back in. They do not care because their customers do not care. (Again, other than the small shoebox of enthusiasts)

Try putting a respectable set of tires on it

It will probably improve a lot

Try the Pilot 4S

Yup but we'll continue to hear about the good ol' E46 and E90 days. It's been a decade and a half, time to let go accept this is the new BMW steering.

Yeah they are phenomenal

I'm waiting on a set of rears (unfortunately on back order) for my M2

Or hold what you got...

Unfortunately, I'm one of those diehards that is hanging on to my E92 coupe. It's over 100K miles and has seen better days, but I still enjoy driving it. I've got the money in the bank to buy a new car, but it's hard to find anything that motivates me to jump.

I've driven just about all the modern lineup as loaners. The 3 series has a great engine, suspension that puts mine to shame, and even a great stereo! But absolutely 0 road feel through the steering. As stated above, BMW has decided that their customers don't want it. You would think with all the option to make adjustments, steering feel could be one of them.

So for me, fingers crossed the new 2 doesn't come out looking too cross-eyed or angular, it's the final model that would get my dollars. Or I can hold on until the used market drops back down to reality.

Wasnt infiniti or nissan who had a steer by wire car and it was all negative criticism. The automobile industry is literally changing in front of us. I am excited for the future tho, imagine piloting a boat like machine that hovers above ground and making turns as if on a snowboard. Wouldnt feel the road but might feel the gravitational feedback. All this for the better of our planet.
