Creaking suspension cause?
Hey guys, I got a 2016 X1 with about 40k miles.
About 3 months ago, my car was loaded with a heavy load and went over a speed bump a little too fast. It didnt scrap anything, but the suspension gave a clear and loud groaning. (I think it is the suspension) Since then, everytime I go over a bump or ditch, there is the sound which sounds like an old spring groaning when compressed or released. But aside from the sound, I am not sure if I feel any discernable change in suspension. Well, X1 does have a harsh ride (for an SUV) to begin with. I suspect that there is damage to the suspension? Anyone else encountered this? (I also encountered a one-off incident a few days ago that I will write another thread for, so do not be surprised to see my name again) |

between this and your other thread, I would suggest you need to get it into a garage, not necessarily a main dealer, just to check your suspension bits out.

So this is the situation now. The shop found that both front-axle control arms and ball joint are bad and need replacement. He puts the blame on the bad road condition (potholes) in Chicago. So that likely a 1k+ repair.
The funny thing is that there is apparently a TSB on this problem: https://www.tsbsearch.com/BMW/SI-B31-01-16 I called up the dealership, but because the car is past the 4 year mark, I am out of luck with that too. |
