Vinyl Wrapping. DIY or Professional
Hey guys. Looking to wrap my roof in a gloss black vinyl. My car is currently Alpine White and I'm going for the black and white combo. My question is should I do the wrap my self and if so where is the best place to get the vinyl affordably. I see a bunch of listings on eBay and other places that have it relatively cheap. My concern is if its going to be really bad and get ruined in a couple of months then it wont make sense to save the coin.
All input is greatly appreciated! |

Just get it done professionally. I've only done the diy thing on small parts and leave the larger stuff for the pros. Of course, I'm not that good at wrapping and find of few hours of my time is more valuable than a couple of hundreds bucks. Check out Don Nguyen, he does good work and his prices are competitive.

It all depends on your time and patience. And its a learn experience. I recommend getting started with smaller pieces like door trims or interior pieces. You will need a heat gun. Watch plenty of youtube videos of how to do it.
If you are looking for glossy black, get this http://www.metrorestyling.com/3M-108...s1080gp282.htm Our roof's are 4 X 5 (double check though). And you will also need to learn how to remove the fin (its not as hard as it seems). |

As far as doing it my self I don't mind putting in the time and I've got fiends who will help so I've got that. I'm just probably going to end up going DIY for the experience and cost savings. Perks of being a broke college student. |

Yeah that's what I might do. If you don't mind me asking did you wrap the rain side rails as well. Did you take them off? Who much vinyl did you have to order?

I will tell you this I took my antenna off I try wrapping it three times I kept braking and making holes due to way its shaped. I finally give up I bought plasti dip in Home Depot spry it apply glossy protection on, you couldn't tell difference unless you get really close. I cant remember how much I bought I only did my roof including my side rails. I say just measure it plus one foot of extra you will need it.

I bought my vinyl from eBay 3M 1080 gloss black Make sure you buy good quality. If you don't some of cheeper versions tend to leave yellow spots under vinyl when you take it off.

so i'm thinking about wrapping my rear bumper with gloss black vinyl since my paint is Jet Black. when i did the Shadowtrim for my windows frame and front reflectors the black vinyl pretty much looks the same as the Jet Black. i'm pretty good with doing things like carbon wrapping my mirror covers and watched plenty of YouTube videos for wrapping the car...i think i have enough confidence to do a rear bumper and possibly my MSPORT side skirts?
here's my bumper i need to wrap!

Yeah as far as quality goes I'm pretty much settled between Avery and 3M but leaning towards the Avery. Have heard better things for it against 3M.

Plasti dip black
Didn't have the funds to black out the chrome with replacement parts and got impatient, bought a can of rustoleum black plastic spray and sprayed the chrome. It was easy and only took about an hour, with a half hour drying time. I attached a picture, not sure if I will try the wheels.
