Warning Triangle "Retrofit" (Euro Drivers, Can You Help?)
To start, I'm aware that the US-spec X1's do not come with the BMW warning triangle (Part # 71606770487) due to regulatory reasons. However, it is sold in the States, even by some BMW dealers. Also, I've unfortunately changed too many tires on a busy stretch of street to know the potential danger of careless drivers not paying attention. I'm trying to prepare for worst case scenario where I may need to do an emergency spare tire install on a busy road once again.
I'm looking for help from the European/non-US drivers that actually have the warning triangle or later installed it themselves. I'm pretty confident there's a specific BMW part that allows for mounting the warning triangle case on the rear trunk lid, as my car has an obvious void for same and 2 cutouts, which I assume are covering the mounting points for the brackets. I just need confirmation that this mounting bracket (Part # 51497167548) will fit a 2018 X1, and the bolt size or part # needed to secure it. If not, can you share the correct part numbers? I've looked on realoem and searched other forums/sources with no definitive answer. Any help is appreciated. |

Did you see this thread over in the X2 section? Different bracket but similar solution possible?

I have a 2020 US-spec that I purchased and drive in Europe, so it came equipped with the warning triangle. There are two plastic pieces that have springs under the lip of the cutout that allow the box to be removed from the retention area. I don't see any specific numbers on the cutout itself. I can grab closer pictures if those would help you any. I don't know if there is big difference in the interior from 2018 to 2020, my understanding the interior bits are pretty similar.

//TMT, I didnt see that post but thank you for sharing. It looks like our car doesn't need any brackets at all based on Dopplebock's pictures.
Dopplebock, thanks very much for taking those photos. It answers my question - the F48 doesn't need any brackets at all. The rectangular impression closest to the trunk glass in my 2018 looks exactly like yours. I can also feel a plastic spring piece on both ends. I had no idea what it was for prior to your post. From your photos, it looks like the box for the emergency triangle will slip into the cutouts without the need for brackets at all. Much appreciated guys. |

Thanks for posting. These are also not standard in Canadian vehicles, so mine’s on the way and the “it snaps right in” level of effort is perfect for my first post-Christmas project!

Follow-up: mine just came today and it looks and fits exactly as shown in the pictures posted above. Thanks again to Skyline2.0 for inspiring me to pick one up.

If I remember rightly, you have to slide the whole thing sideways to allow one end to clear the boot lid, and then lift it out that way. Try and move it to one side or the other and you should be able to see the end of the box
