Speedometer Inaccuracy
The speedometer in my 2018 X1 reads slow by approx. 2-3 mph or 3-5 km/hr. On the highway with cruise control on, I compared the speed against GPS navigation apps (e.g., Google Maps) on my Android smatphone. Tires are properly inflated and there is plenty of tread left.
When I took the car in for service recently, I had it checked and they said was fine. They said BMW has an a acceptable speedometer accuracy of up to 10% under. The speedometers on my previous 2 cars were accurate to approx. 1 mph or 2 kh/hr. Does anyone have the same issue? |

*sorry, I meant over. Speedo reads higher than actual speed as mentioned by others here.

Usually you hear about the speedo on BMW products reading high, not low. Our X1 reads about 3-4 km/h higher than actual speed.
On my Mini, it was possible to code this "correction" out and have the digital speed display be correct even if the analog one is wrong, but on the X1 changing the same parameter had no effect, so BMW may have gotten wise to that tweak. |

Some people actually like having the built-in fudge factor on the speedo for that exact reason. Others say, what's the point of a speedo if it's not showing your actual speed? Whichever camp you're in, though, it's normal.

2mph fast indicated seems to be standard in USA. My Toyota had it, Ford had it, Chevy has it, BMW X1 and x2 both have it

All my cars including this one read 2-3 mph fast. Imagine the complaints if they read slow and you were prosecuted for speeding. Maybe thats why its done deliberately.

Most of our vehicles have been pretty accurate, apart from a Toyota and any BMW products. Our VW was dead on, which surprised me. I also rent vehicles often and with Waze running it’s easy to check the speedo. Korean cars tend to be pretty good. Some North American vehicles are better than others. But my experience has been that BMW (and Porsche, notably) are outliers with their 3-5 km/h add.

In summary, manufacturers would be at risk is someone got stopped for speeding because their speedo calibration understated actual speed, better to build in a margin for error/temperature and tyre variation. |

I wish this was true, but as I mentioned above, this doesn’t in fact seem to be changeable on the F48 like it is on older models. Happy to be proven wrong if anyone has actually found that changing either or both of the “KORREKTUR” parameters works on X1 or X2, or if there’s now another way to do it!

Both of my 3-series were like that (2011 and 2014). I was able to code and have it corrected.
I've noticed my X1 reads about 2-mph off, but I just go 2mph faster to make up for it |
