I think the hood on the X1 does look better. But not too bad compared to the nice proportions on rest of the car IMHO.

I think a lot of manufacturers nowadays are adapting a shorter hood for a tiny loss of weight when you compare the material of the hood vs the material of the front fascia. I personally prefer the hood to extend to the grills myself, and I wish that were the case on my car.

I agree. I don't have enough Bavarian roundels on my car. It could use a couple more. Although my 2014 M235i has no less than 16 ///M badges throughout the car... I think I'm good with M badges!

But seriously, I think I've come around to accepting those C pillar roundels. I now think they're a nice touch. I don't know what other BMW models that design can work on though.

those concept sketches are actually hilarious! Its amazing that a concept artist gets paid to 'go to town' with design like that!... I just don't see the value.
otherwise, I give this thing a 6.5/10, its not bad, but all these X1, X2's etc are all starting to look the same blobs of SAVs over and over again. Like how many do they need!?

Definitely. Probably on even numbered models, e.g. X4, X6, maybe 4 series etc.

As long as they are easily removable (which these appear to be) who cares? I would be upset if they were like the Z4 with a light molded under it.

Please put the kidneys correctly and the hood line over them, not 30cm away!

Remember current 1 series pre-LCI front end?? I expect to see a similar radical LCI to this one. They need to fix these errors!

I hope someone makes a render just turning the kidneys around.

Look again, there's a cavity in the sheet metal.

The hood will not be changed in an LCI. Kidneys possibly but I wouldn't count on it.

I never understood why people complained when spy shots were caught, this thing looks just fine.

As for what it's purpose is in the market given the existence of the X1, I have no clue.

M Sport X doesn't look that good.
Somehow a girly town car. Curious to see it to understand better the proportions.

The entire product line could stand a fair bit of rationalization. It gets complicated looking across geos but take the U.S. for example - you could probably cut almost half the cars and no one would care. Forget rationalizing engine choices just the cars themselves. Need a 6GT and X6? 4GC really do much that the 3 doesn't? The even numbers are probably the easiest. Keep the 2 coupe, 4 convertible (and return to soft top) and keep the 6 GC. Keep 3 / 5 / 7 sedans. Then keep all the X stuff. Kill the wagon entirely.

I am not advocating this nor is it something that would make me personally happy, but they could get the number of offerings down quite a bit without a huge impact to top line.

As with nearly all cars released these days, the wheels have a gigantic diameter but are ridiculously thin, which makes the car look stupid from the rear...
