Largest USB stick that will work in X2?
Hi all
I'm a fan of using lossless FLAC audio files which take up a lot of storage space, so was wondering what the largest capacity USB memory stick that will work in the X1/X2? I don't want to try an SSD, as I don't need that much music on board! Also, have people tried FLAC files to confirm they will play on X1/X2s? And do album artwork images show up on screen? cheers

Thanks MDrive! I thought I had tried FLAC files out on the demo vehicle but couldn't 100% recall.
Obviously I don't have my actual X2 yet, as it's making its way downunder and is currently approaching the Panama Canal! On a ship. I optioned for the Harman Kardon speakers, so hopefully that'll sound good

Do you know if USB3 sticks will work? In fact..is the slot a USB3, or USB2?
And for cover images to appear on the display screen, do they have to be in the same folder as the music tracks? cheers

USB3 sticks work fine, the album art needs to either be in the same folder or embedded in the MP3s.

does the album art have to be 'encoded' with the FLACs
Hi again
just a few more questions about cover art: To ensure it shows up on screen does it have to be a max size (or does the screen adjust automatically)? and should it be called cover.jpg or will any .jpg file show up? and does the image have to be encoded into the files, or can I just download an image off the net and save it into the folder of FLACs? thank you

More google research showed this:
"If you already have the artwork files and they all have a consistent name such as "cover.jpg", then you can use Mp3tag. Load up your FLAC files into Mp3tag and highlight them. On the toolbar, click the "Actions (Quick)" button and select "Import cover from file". It's easiest when the artwork is in the same folder as the FLAC files, but not necessary as long as the artwork files are named in a consistent way that ties each artwork file to one set of FLAC files: If artwork is in same folder as FLAC files, format string is simply cover.jpg (or whatever name you've given the artwork files) If the artwork files are in another folder, then you have to structure a format string to reach them: e.g. C:\MUSIC\ARTWORK\%album%.jpg You'll probably need to experiment with this to get it to work right or you can post back more detail on where your artwork files are located and how they are named. If you don't already have the artwork and need to download it first, then you can try Media Art Aggregator." So...I guess it's not as simple as just copying the cover image into the same folder as FLACs. Looks like you have to 'tag' them to the files, or is that only if you want a different image for each song?

Actually in general it is, most player software does look in the album folder for the art, they're talking about referencing art in another separate folder, but honestly just use one of the bazillion art fixer tools and try to use images under 500x500 even if you need to shrink them and then keep note of the ones that don't work, you're overthinking this.

Thanks Diane... I'm in the strange situation where I'm trying to get all my FLAC folders sorted well before my actual car gets delivered. Reason being that I'm currently working where it's relatively easy to acquire FLACs, but where I normally live (and where my car will be), one cannot get them easily.
cheers

I've got the HK system with the upgraded Nav package. On mine, I've got a 256GB USB stick and play FLACs. They sound excellent in the X2 - it's a good setup.
