Extended Warranty
Hi - as my car will be approaching the end of its 3 year BMW warranty in next few months, I am considering whether it might prove prudent to consider extending the warranty with BMW.
Spoke to dealer who indicated that all extended warranties are now managed through BMW HQ (in Uk at least). Calling them they indicated that as car is still 2 months warranty left they cannot quote until approx 1 month prior to end of warranty. Not sure therefore what the cost would be but when I owned a Land Rover Freelander, I kept a warranty going on this for £505 a year which equated to below 4 hours of workshop labour so it was bit of a non brainer really. With BMW maintenance/ repair costs higher than LR I am interested to know if any of you have taken out the extended warranty.? |

2.0D with 25k miles. Just taken out extended warranty. £320 for 12 months. What they call Comprehensive (full cover) with £250 excess. Not cheap but looking for peace of mind on any major failure. Can be transferred to new owner if vehicle sold.
Got an email from BMW about month before 3 year warranty expired giving access to quoting system. On line transaction with electronic docs sent via email. Rgds Mike PS ref KPD reply...I declined emergency assist as I am AA member. |

I've got about 3 months left of my 3 year warranty, so this information is really useful, thanks! I have pretty good breakdown cover elsewhere, but I think I'll go for the extended warranty. Are there different excess levels to choose from?
EDIT: I did have cause to use the BMW Assist breakdown the other day, and it was the same local company that my other (packaged bank account) have sent in the past |

I think I envy you guys in the UK
To extend the factory warranty on our X1 25i for another two years (inc roadside assist) costs nearly $AUD4,000 (that's almost £2,200)

In Bulgaria it costs roughly the same as in the UK, however the standard warranty is 2 years, not 3

in Italy we have 2 year total warranty, no mileage limits + 2 years on lubricated parts, diesel engine and automatic transmission are included, for cars sold by BMW Italy, if the car came from outer country you are still under warranty but only for the first 2 year, italian minimum legal warranty

Interesting reading, I use my car for business and have 1yr left after warranty, so I will probably take this out for piece of mind.
Cheers for all the info. |

To support Mushy007's comment has stated thanks to all contributors to this thread- very helpful.
When my offer comes through I will be considering just the warranty without the breakdown cover. Reason - I have Green Flag cover through the Caravan Club as this covers caravan as well - with ongoing travel to site cover, get you home after holiday cover etc etc which at £72 per year is very reasonable I guess. |

We've bought the BMW extended warrant for my wife's 1-series for the last 6 years. During that time she's had a few repairs done which have more than made up for the cost of the warranty.
To us, one big advantage of having the BMW warranty (and getting the car diagnosed & repaired at a BMW dealership) is that the dealership deals directly with the warranty company - so we don't see any bills, and we don't have to submit any proof/invoices to, or get authorisation from, a 3rd party warranty company. It's all very simple and, for us, transparent.

We had the BMW extended warrantee on the last car ,e84,including the Breakdown Cover.
The time we required Breakdown Cover it was in the Lake District, off the main roads and difficult to describe location accurately. As the phone reception was poor we tried the Emergency button, it was answered immediately [by BMW or there agent], and they could actually locate us. Local garage out within the hour [it was a Bank Holiday Monday] and soon had us sorted out. For this sort of service I would take the BMW Breakdown cover. The two previous times I had called BMW Breakdown it was a BMW technician in a 5 series tourer, first breakdown in my 525 [only 6 weeks old e39] second time in the e84 |
