I had to drive to work this past Monday in Boston (I think we got around 14inches of snow), I have an xDrive with blizzak ws80's and the grip was amazing (I had the DSC off as well). If anything I was getting frustrated from seeing so many cars driving so slowly and slipping on the roads.

Too bad the test in the original post didn't have all season tires. I'm sure they would be significantly worse than winter tires but I would like to see the difference.

On the subject of winter tyres, is there any truth that if you use winter tyres all year round, you will wear out the wheel bearings? I raise this because my eldest who runs an XC90 Volvo has put Michelin Cross Climates on his car. His local garage state if these are run in the warmer weather they will accelerate the wear on his car’s wheel bearings.
Anyone scientific out there who can advise on this? |

Guess I will change over my winter tyres after this cold spell. Possibly late next week.
Last year of course we had the Beast from the East late March. I was one of the few getting around without any problem. Be just my luck for the weather to turn again just as I put my all weather tyres back on! |
