2018 X2 Remote Start
So I have a very highly optioned 2018 X2 but unfortunately it doesn't appear that remote start was an option for this year. I've spoken with the BMW geniuses and they confirmed it as well. They did tell me that a local dealership may be able to add in a remote start but my dealership has been hesitant with it.
Has anyone added a remote start system to their car that didn't have one from the factory? If so, which system did you go with? (Links are highly appreciated!) |

Most of us with pre 2020 bmws have given up on remote start. Not willing to give up a key is one reason. Second reason is not many options out there.
Do you want it for cooling the car or warming it? The phone app has an option to crack the windows and run the fan a little. |

He means that most cars need the chip in the key to start. For the bmw starters they do not make any "cloning" modules, so basically they use a key that you leave inside the car so that when the car starter activates it uses the key to start. The one brand I saw not only is about 1k, then you need an accessory system and the key. So in total you're looking at 1500 usd or more plus your spare key has to be used in the install so it'll be in the car permanently. Not quite worth it in my opinion. The bmw starts up and warms pretty quick. A starter would be great but.. no good solutions still for our year and models.

I got a Eurostart for my 2022 and it was 1k installed Canadian funds. Worth every penny. Yes I lost a key fob but I can use my phone to start the car anywhere and I use it multiple times a week and it's not even cold yet.
