Console lighting
I have one tiny annoyance with the cockpit equipment - there is no illumination at all in the cubby/cupholder area forward of the shifter. It's pretty much impossible to fish things out of there at night. Anyone have a clever solution?

There is an led in the bezel above, feel on the bottom of the trim, right in the center.

that area is lit...connected to the rest of the ambient lighting. If you have the ambient lighting set to orange, then the cubby area is lit in orange. However with all the other ambient colour choices, the cubby lighting is just white.
You can increase the ambient lighting brightness which will also increase the cubby area's lighting. And avoid the orange setting as that is quite dark. cheers

I do have it set to orange, and at very low brightness. Kind of dislike all the other options. Ok, I'll give them a second chance!

Thanks, getting away from Orange helps a lot. Currently rocking Bronze.
There is a coding in Bimmercode to "decouple ambient lighting brightness from instrument". Does that enable any extra flexibility here? |

I remember trying that on Bimmercode to see what it would do. I can't recall exactly what changed after, but the brightness of the ambient lighting still adjusts when you adjust instrument panel lighting..

Odd.. I noticed the same thing too.. that ambient lighting is almost non existent vs on my wife's X1 with the orange it's pretty bright. I have mine on blue setting and I don't see a thing. Actually what I did with my pedal tuner is stick it under the console so it's facing down.. the light is enough for me when it's pitch black

The ambient lighting's only on the upper door trims (around the contrast trim piece), not the floor. I think the floor lighting is separately controlled (via the ceiling light switches and door triggers).
btw, I noticed on a friend's X5 that the door ambient light also lights up the storage bins. nice!

There is a single light beneath the door bins, which lights the inside door sill area in the center. It's kind of weird, actually, in that it really doesn't shine light on anything useful. It's present on all four doors.
