My first BMW is my present 2009 335d that I just bought 3 months ago with only 81,000 km on the clock.
It is a very nice driving car compared to the rather ordinary autos I have owned.
I do admit I am scared of the complexity and potential expense of maintenance and repairs going forward.
I am also a Newbie on the forum and was just wondering out loud if anyone out there can suggest where to start in the area of any tools or devices I can use to display and perhaps even log things like water temp and oil pressure and temp like the Banks 2 inch Super gauge or such , and also something I can use myself to find hidden trouble codes? It sure would be nice to have more gauges ! The Speedo and Tach just dont cut it for me!
The car has just had the dpf scr and total egr delete done by my request by the shop who I bought it from and has something in the order of say a 2.5 Tune.
I am thinking already of MODS - such as a Wavetrac LSD and gearing up to a 2.56 final drive instead of the stock 2.81 ratio.
Just curious as to what this car cost new in Canada (or the USA) when it was Brand Spanking New ? It has most equipment , but has no IDRIVE. Was IDRIVE even a thing in 2009 335d?
Please be gentle on me as I am new to "New Technology" cars. My newest car prior to this one is my trusty 2005 Passat BHW diesel with the 5 spd manual conversion.
So there is my Story on my first Beemer !

My first was a 76 525i. Was a little rustbucket when i had it in the late 90's but it drove great and was the first one that turned me on to BMW. I wish i had some pics of it from back in the day.

I bought a used 1970 BMW 2002 in 1975. I ended up getting so many speeding tickets I had a misdemeanor placed on my dmv record and my car insurance dropped me. I learned about my shortcomings...

I'm hooked

My first BMW is 2019 X5 40i - now 5 months into our relationship. The first 2 weeks was like honeymoon - at the end of the day coming back home from work I would find another reason to go to the store, just so I can drive again. It is such a awesome ride! I might be hooked to bimmer for life!

Mine was a 1998 318is. Green with speed cloth seats and a 5speed. I thought it was the coolest car ever! My progression through the brand (strayed at times but I love my Bmw's for sure) e36 318, E46 m3, e90m3, e92m3 (stroker motor), f10m5, f90 m5.

My first "personal" BMW has been an R53 MINI cooper S in 2009, but the oldest BMW I own, is the first BMW of my family, which I've totally restored, our wonderful 1997 E39 525tds sedan...with manual gearbox. Is simply a crush everytime I see it into my garage beside my M140i. I think that the E39 is one of the most beautiful BMW sedan ever made.

08 Z4 M Coupe

My first BMW was a 2008 BMW Z4 M Coupe that I purchased in 2010. I had been looking for cars for awhile, doing my research and looking for something unique as this was going to be my first car over $30,000 as my budget was $32,000. I found this Z4 M Coupe in Barrington, IL at the BMW dealership. Apparently the previous owner was an older gentleman that bought the car and then realized that for winters in IL a rear wheel drive low clearance car was not the best choice and he turned it back in with 2,000 miles and bought himself an M3. The problem was the car was going for $40,000 and even though I talked them down to $38,000 at the time I was still short. My father, a short Italian man with a passion for motorsports and cars saw my conundrum and without hesitation said, "Buy it before someone else does and I'll give you the money you need," in his Italian/English accent. I completed the deal and till this day I own this baby. She only has 7,500 miles as I now own multiple M cars and Ducati's that keep me busy but the reality is that this car was special not only because it's a scary racing machine even compared to the other M's but because it's one of the best memories I have of my father who passed away not quite 2 years ago. We did the road trip together from NC to IL and put the car on a trailer and drove it back home. My dad made us stop at some tiny, no name restaurant to get a 'big bisteca' or steak as he'd say, to celebrate this occasion. I think he was just as happy as I was and now that I'm a father to a 3 and almost 1 year old I realize he was happy for me. We talked a lot on that drive back to NC and connected in a way we hadn't done it a bit. The drive back was on snowy mountain roads and at times towing the car on a trailer seemed like we were just asking for the grim reaper to visit us early but we made it back home safely. My plan currently (although as a parent I realize more than ever how plans change constantly) is to hold onto this gem for my son. When he's old enough I'll tell him how his Nonno helped me get my first BMW and then tell him about his Nonno who came from a little town outside of Naples (Sassano) and made something pretty impressive of himself by working hard, being kind to people from all walks of life and doing things by the book...that's just who he was.

Great story, i'm sorry to hear about your father, but I'm glad you got to spend that time with him. Those are the kind of memories that you can treasure forever.

I recently gifted a car to a family member, my one owner, never modified 350Z which I gave to my father in law who has always wanted one. It's a fantastic feeling and I love being able to visit it and see all the love he showers it with (It's absolutely his baby.)

Anyway, i've never been much of a BMW person, though my dad had a mid-70's BMW 320i when I was growing up, so as far as the European brand's BMW has always been my favorite.

But ever since childhood i'd always fancied myself as more of a JDM guy and my first automotive loves were mid-90's Toyotas like the MR2 and Supra. My first car was even an all-wheel drive Celica from 1988.

I've basically been waiting for the new Supra for 20 years. I wasn't really bothered when I found it was going to basically be a BMW....but I was pretty crestfallen when I found out it would be auto only. I've never owned an automatic (no disrespect if that's anyone's preference, it just isn't mine) and I just didn't really think I could hold my nose and buy the Supra anyway because I just don't want an auto sports car.

But all that talk of the Supra ACTUALLY being a BMW got me thinking "hey...I was basically gonna buy a BMW anyway, what else do they have in their lineup?" That led me to the M2 Comp, which was in my budget (barely) and actually does a reasonably good job of mimic the MKIV supra in it's setup: RWD, I-6 with twin turbos, M/T and 2+2 seating. And it makes an amount of horsepower that's perfect for me (and right about where i'd want a MKIV supra to be if i had one) enough to be quick, but not so much I can't exploit it.

Thanks for sharing your experience as well. I'm sure your father in law appreciates you very much. Funny you shared your passion for Supra's. My next door neighbor when I lived in S. Florida has a 95 Supra tastefully modded and it was my dream car for the longest time. I do not mind the looks of the new one at all, as a matter of fact I really like it (more than the new Z4 by far). I hear what you're saying about going manual. Until I purchased my new M3 all my cars have been manual... I even owned a manual Kia Soul at one point. I went DCT as my wife needed a backup car to drive and she is not a fan of manual transmissions so that left my Z4 and Z3 out of the mix. I can't complain though, sometimes during rush hour I'm glad to have the DCT and it's also got a usable back seat.
I met a cool guy and his son at the last Charlotte cars and coffee and I believe he had the same M2 color as pictured here and it looked amazing. It's an impressive car for sure.

My first bmw was a Alpine White 91' 325is. My dad got it for me as a project when I was 16. Car was an all original and had 109k actual miles. (This was in 2016). He had a matching Sapphire Blue Metallic 90' 325i. Made the mistake of getting rid of the thing and getting an E92 335. Absolutely love my 335 now but there was just something about 80s-90s bmw you don't see in modern bmw. Everything feels so artificial now and everyone's so concerned about what numbers the car puts down on paper that they forget about the driving feel. [IMG][/IMG]

My first BMW was my parents' '92 BMW 316i Touring. Unfortunately I don't remember which sort of red it was, it probably must have been either Brillantrot or Zinnoberrot.

The first BMW that I bought myself was a '97 BMW 528i in Arktissilber Metallic.

My first BMW is my current car, a 2019 M240i (MT/RWD). Iíve always wanted a BMW but never was in position where I thought I could afford to buy one. Not sure if I was being frugal or what, but I am pretty happy with my decision. I absolutely love the car - it really is a blast to drive. Since picking it up, Iíd added the M Performance LSD, exhaust, and several cosmetic mods.

My first "entry lever" BMW that I just picked up two weeks ago is a 2016 320i xDrive Melbourne Red Sedan. It's my daily driver and really pleased with my choice. She's bone stock right now but plan to ad some personal touches to make her my own in the near future!
