Is it possible to "rent" a car from a BMW dealer?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I need an suv for a weekend trip, and traditional rental options typically suck. I can rent something fun on Turo (direction I'm leaning now), but was wondering if a dealer would give me something like a loaner for the weekend. Obviously I'm happy to pay, and equally obviously they aren't in the business of renting cars, but thought I'd ask the brain trust if there's a way to do something like this.

Thoughts?

I think I have an M3 problem.

I highly doubt it but you can try.

yes, take your car in for an oil change, get a loaner, then tell them you won't be in town for a few days.

Most dealers won't give loaners for just an oil change. Maybe if you were good friends with a manager but this would a steep hill to climb. Just do Turo. Or some Hertz and Enterprise locations actually have exotic/sports cars.

SIXT.com rents BMW's in the USA. You could also try Turo.com

Another option is to try airport rental car locations. They usually have better cars and you can sometimes reserve a specific model.

i had a good relationship with my service writer... over the years when we had a road trip, we would "save" maintenance or some warranty claim for right before the trip and then take it in an let him know we wouldn't be back until monday. he never cared and put my car on the back burner until monday or something and went on about his day. i was quick in and out and i think he liked that.
we put almost 1,500 miles on a loaner once. the dealership also states that if you keep the car after 8am the day after service is completed, its like $120 a day for the car. they started limited the mileage as well. lol

My dealer won't give a loaner for under 2 hour estimated service.

Maybe its a regional thing. But I've basically been to every BMW dealership between San Diego and LA. I don't even request a loaner, it's just given to me.

The only service-related loaner restriction I've ever seen is that dealers around here will give you a shitty rental car if you didn't buy from them. Outside of that, I've gotten a loaner for any service, including oil change. Agree it might be regional.

If you are really, uh "creative", you can schedule a Friday afternoon appointment for any reason, book a loaner. It doesn't need to be routine maintenance, it can be something like try to reproduce XYZ issue that's been bothering you for a while. If you are good enough friends, have the service department do some banal work for $XX and you get a loaner. I've heard people allude to dealerships letting you do overnight test drives, but it seems like you better know someone there or just have very high cachet.

Seems like a bad thing to do and way too much hassle/game playing though. Just book on Turo, that's what it is made for.

Last oil change, I asked for an X5 loaner, and got it. They found something else wrong, had to order parts, and I kept the loaner for 5 days. Winslow BMW, Colorado Springs.

Yeah, already booked a Cayenne S on Turo.

And yes - all (most?) the BMW dealerships around here have a deal with Enterprise. If you bought from them, you get a legit loaner. If you didn't, they'll give you a car for free, but it's gonna be a Civic if you're lucky.

You just schedule way in advance for the loaner. However, I was unaware I could ask my SA for a certain loaner. I may have to give that a go.
