This is not EXACTLY my situation, but close enough for conversation. -Like I don't think my dad is a pinhead for not fixing the lawnmower every time. But I am really busy.
What you don't know is my youngest -7 is challenged. She needs someone with her all the time. That is why my last x became my last x. I didn't think it was right to go out when she was home alone.
But, I get about 17k from the gov to help out. And the people around here make me feel like total shit for it. Really, you can do better? 17k? Good luck. I tried working at the tire shop, made about 325 a week for busting my ass and it was never good enough or fast enough. But I am still buddies with those guys.
As soon as I get a 'regular' paycheck, I lose the gov checks. Well mostly. So, it doesn't make sense for me to pay somebody to watch Hannah while I bust my ass to make 325.
Better is that I get about 20 bucks an hour cash money for cutting grass, or if i work on cars, I get a good bit. I changed the cabin air filter for this one guy for 50 bucks!!! I just need more of those kinds of gigs.
SO Why do I have to feel like shit for needing help? Its not like I am not working. I even volunteered at the church sometimes. -Mostly for my mom.
But there are some Hottys running around that place, nice perk.

Enough ranting. Thats all I have to say. Thanks again.
You feel like shit because you know you can do better. Do better.

Watch Rocky and Rocky II. Understand what it means to have drive. Go for a better life man.

I created a program with a mentor based on the Rocky theme. I was in a not so great job making OK money and severely overweight after college. My mentor spent time with me to get in shape, learn the business I wanted to go into, learn how to be polished and learn how to have the right attitude.

After 6 months. I went from 232lbs to a lean but strong 165-170lbs and landed a bottom rung job in investment banking.

From when I started turning my life around to 18 months later, I doubled my income, set my career in motion and lost a bunch of weight. Got healthy.

You need to find a good mentor and stop making excuses and keep an open mind for feedback. People who pat you on the back for working hard at a tire shop aren't the people you need to surround yourself with.

Stop drinking mad beer. Start making a plan for every day. Wake up early. Set goals. Hit the goals, then make higher goals.

Start lifting. And find a good lifting partner that will keep you accountable. You need to learn how to push through pain and keep going. You need to taste success.

If you're mad after reading this then read it again tomorrow. Keep reading this until you believe you can change your situation. That's your first step.

No one is gonna give you anything. You need to fight for it yourself.

Your posts are funny to read because I would always picture you as some white guy who was quite open minded. When I found out you are Jamaican and Chinese I was thrown for a loop.

Also does that article say that if you make over $200k then you are separated from the others and will continue to prosper with the rich unlike the "p00rs" who make less than $200k? I know drafting in car racing exists but never knew it existed in socioeconomic status!

Now I just need to find a mentor

Hahaha, awesome. Thanks man. Actually Jamaican Chinese on one side, Taiwan on the other so the cultural background is pretty much Chinese with some Caribbean seasoning thrown in. Like my tan year-round pop loves making curry everything.

I guess the white part, just growing up in the States and exposure at school.

Thanks for the support!

Edit: I do hope y'all do find my posts entertaining as I enjoy posting them at times as well. Most recently was responding to that politically-charged OT Politics lurker. Psst. He's still lurking and trying to figure out a comeback.

Hell, you sucked me into that political thread and I try to stay out of those--so, your posts are good and engaging.

Well, I am glad you asked!

I am going to ease into my answer by saying the boomers are the greatest blight the earth has ever seen. I will just point out a few of what I consider to be obvious situations.

It is unabashedly the ME generation.

Our national debt certainly balances well with their buy now pay later approach to life.
So does our recent financial meltdown and the rule changes that made it possible.
Outsourcing all those too expensive jobs overseas to improve balance sheets.
Our national infrastructure has only decayed under the boomers. Bridges, roads, schools, -typical boomer answer? Privatize it. If it is good for business it must be good for me!
The environment has certainly taken a beating thanks to the me approach. What climate change? We cannot possibly be affecting the environment in which we live. It must be a natural phenomena…
Are they going to retire any time soon- NO
Are they wreaking havoc on Social Security- You betcha
Are they ensuring they will be fully funded and future generations can just suck it- ...
But I digress.

Good job little Billy, here is your trophy!

And by trophy I mean a bunch of angry people who would put a jackass like Trump into office to try and effect change, but until none of the above goes on the ballot, it is their best worst option.

Ok, that last bit is a little off topic but look at the laws that we have enacted in the past 20 years. Nothing is beyond the pale for the ME generation.

What was going through my mind while reading it is that most of the families in that bracket are dual incomes. They rely on day care, schools and the internet raise their children. If the separation that the article is talking about is a significant factor, those improperly socialized kids will be the ones running things fairly soon.

That is a scary proposition.

Before anybody goes all, "I'm a boomer, and I pay everything in cash..." on me. Yeah, not good to generalize in an argument. Yeah, the exception... Stereotypes become stereotypes... Ah shit... never mind.

This article is written by a boomer and eloquently states what I have ham handedly tried to say.
