Am I really seeing over 4 inches longer and 2.6 inches wider? I expected it to sadly get larger but that's a massive size increase and the curb weight went with it. Now that 4 cylinder which was a wonderful fun to drive car is going to be over powered with added mass to drag around. And I'm not sure the go cart like handling can make it either.

This means the 4 series is what half an inch wider? Only half an inch? And then 9 inches longer?

If the last gen 2 series was a successor to the E46, then this one is a proper successor to the E92

So with all the series on the G-platform now, it's interesting how the interiors from the base 2 series to the top of line X7 are exactly identical, yet the exteriors of each series are entirely different with no relationship between series. This thing doesn't look remotely related to a G20 which doesn't look remotely related to a G22 which doesn't look remotely related to a G30.

The interior may look nice in JPGs, but it's awful. Go sit in any new BMW. The center console and transmission tunnel area are cheap and plasticky. The buttons have no travel. It's very disappointing.

The only thing I like is that they now offer 245 front tires lol. The car is ugly, especially the rear.

Honestly the 220i pictured looks a LOT better than the M240i. Real exhaust pipes, the front end looks better.

Overall initial impressions are that I'm whelmed. I don't wince at it like when I look at any of the new "beaver" grill cars that I would sell if I were given one for free - BUT I don't look at it and say "wow, that's really good looking".
I had a E46 330Ci ZHP and from the first time I saw it and every single day when I looked at it I said, damn that's a good looking car. I have a similar reaction, perhaps not as intense, to my F22 M240i. There were plenty of BMWs I could have bought between the 2, but none really evoked the same response. Always kinda minor things. I didn't care for the size / handling of the newer 3 coupes then the 4s, BUT I did have to admit the 4 looked damn good, inside and out.

For the premium they want to charge for their cars, it's really sad that the best they can achieve is a "I don't hate it" / "at least it's not as ugly as the beaver grilled variants". The interior is good, save for the digital dash. As expected, same as any other BMW right now pretty much. There are elements of it I do like ... but as many have mentioned that although they didn't totally mess it up with another comically oversized grill, there are elements of the front and back that just don't work.

And no word yet on if the RWD M240i will be available with a manual or not. I'm not holding out much hope.

Perhaps the new M2 will look better, and I think they have already said it WILL come with a manual. Need to ask my boss for a raise now, right? But honestly I see myself holding on to my F22 for a while. There is nothing about the new model that really compels me (he says before driving it...)

I have always appreciated 2 series for what they are: a more personal ultimate driving machine. The new 2 series doesn't disappoint.

F22 always had a chubby looking face to me, the wider grills here look way better. Reminds me of the e89. This is good, I think m2 will be great

It's getting to be so that all the BMWs are pretty much the same package in a different size and a few things missing the lower the number.

Glad they didn't mess up the grill. My kid would love one of these.

I'm going to test drive it when it comes out. It's not a great design, but it's at least a "good plus" design. I agree that the base model looks much better, since there's not a googaw at every angle that screams "look at me!".

I have a sneaking suspicion that those active front vents will need to be replaced as often as my cupholders.

I owned a purple Integra back in the day. I actually really dig that it comes in that colour. Will appeal to the boy racer crowd I bet.

Thundernight and the front 3/4 views looks great. The taillights look like they need to be a bit higher.

I had high hopes for the 2 series (and was thinking I might lease one to replace my e92) - will reserve judgement till I see one on the road, but the size and kerb weight is a killer.

Considering the original 1 series coupe was seen as BMW's return to making small, lightweight cars you'd think that with modern materials it would still be relatively lightweight even with all the safety tech.

I'm about to start working on restoring an early e30 318i. Comparing 4 cylinders, the stock kerb weight of the 318i is 1248lbs lighter than the 230i. That's more than a few cheeseburgers!

It's even nearly 400lbs heavier than my e92!

Well… looks like I'm in the market for the M2 CS, maybe even a comp. I prefer the 235i to this but that's just me.

Not bad! IMHO G30 is still the best bridge between old and new, followed by the G20. This one's looks, I don't hate it and I don't love it. Agree that old-school tinting either dark or red will fix the tails and hence the back end (inverted blacklines and redlines for the old-school folk still here). Odd though to see an E90 design cue on a coupe!

One thing to note, if the xDrive M240i is just about the same weight as the RWD M340i, we should expect the RWD M240i to be a touch less.

Also curious if the new black/cerium grilles will be 2-series specific or if they're being whipped up for the G20 LCI as well.

Waiting patiently for the M2 and the stickshift!

Looks good, I am actually a bit disappointed that it isn't more distinct than the outgoing model. But it will be a winner

What's no problem? Google is showing less than 6k sold in 2020 and I guess a good year so far in 2021 but 2700 through May this year.
