you dont say... thats why i said "would have loved to see" End of the day, its a great compact SUV that will fit the bill for most people and daily use. Depending on price, it could find its way into my garage as a replacement for my e90

That shifter looks like garbage. Otherwise it's a superb runabout.

Exterior is great, that shifter is horrible though

No M-Sport for the US? It's not on the configurator.

I like the front on the M-Sport but the back looks bulky. Here are some pics from Frankfurt.

I like it. It is a very nice companion to my M3 for Winter driving and for utiliarian needs. Keeping the six cylinder would have been nice but the 2.0 Ltr should be adequately tunable.

Sorry, I must respectfully disagree...

Having researched a lot of small SUVs for my next "daily driver", I've come to the conclusion that there are no "just as good" SUVs for "60-70% of the money".

For example, the Mazda CX-5 -- which often wins most small SUV comparos -- is very similar in dimensions, and has great handling. However, optioned with the GT package it's about $33K, and the X1 can be nicely optioned for $43K, making the CX-5 about 75% of the cost. Further, the CX-5 has much less horsepower and torque, and its 0-60 time of about 7.8 seconds is much slower than the X1 at 6.3s. It's just not as good.

The other major players in that segment, such as the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, etc, also have slower acceleration than the X1 and don't have as many bells & whistles. They're not even as good as the CX-5, let alone an X1.

If you want to step up to something with performance on par with an X1, you're going to be looking at a Mercedes GLA or Audi Q3 and the like. At that point you're facing an SUV that's just as expensive as the X1, and in some cases with fewer premium options (e.g., no HUD available in the GLA nor Q3). The new Lexus NX is a bit cheaper in this segment, but it's rather hideous and quite slow compared to the X1.

TL;DR: There is nothing currently on the market as good as the new X1 for 60-70% of the money. To even get (arguably) "as good" you need to spend probably 90% of the money. It's likely why Car & Driver ranks it #1 in its segment:
  1. BMW X1
  2. Mercedes GLA
  3. Audi Q3
  4. Lexus NX

Same question here... Is the US getting the M Sport package?
